shark bay tips

Hey guys,

Ive been up in shark bay since sunday and had 3 days of good weather and have had some average luck finding fish out on the boat, but am keen to get into some of the larger size pinkies and blackies, but have only been been able to catch smaller fish, about 30cm.

Does anyone have tips to finding these fish in the bay, or better still any fish in the bay. I was thinking of launching at monkey mia on sunday and heading up to point peron to try around there, is this good fishing? Or a waste of time and fuel? Im up here with the family for another week and hope to start consistantley finding some decent fish. Any help will be much appreciated.

cheers rob

Depending on what size boat

Depending on what size boat you have first mate. I have fished shark bay so many times in the last seven years.

1

if i was you i would load up the jerry cans of fuel and head out to ,south passage, head towards steep point stay about 50m out from the cliffs. and about 100 or so metres before steep point ends there will be a nice drop off anchor up and pinkies, baldchin groper, black snapper and some decent sharks that really put on a impressive aerial show.

2

head out to black rock D.H.Island incredible fishing!!! get a local to draw a quick map on how to get there. Might have to give a local a six pack for that. Thats the locals favourite spot ssshhh

3

and the popular turtle bay!!! very long boat trip tho mate but worth it

Monkey mia if you dont no where the grounds are it can be hit n miss mate

you could try what they call

you could try what they call the bent peg. pinkies, mulla, blacks and more can be taken from out there. just look for the channel close by and anchor up. look at the tides tho as it can absolutly screem through there and you wont hit bottom. 1 hour each side of tide change is best

thanks a heap for that boys, dads sorta running the show and isnt too keen on the idea of steep point, turtle bay, etc. he reckons our 485 trailcraft wont be able to handle the trip if it turns bad. I sure hope he changes his mind.

is black rock east or west of DHI? and ive tried the bent peg once and got a nice spanish flag and had a good pinky sharked. but as dad is he got impatient when the fish went of the bite and we moved spots and didnt get another sniff.

we will most likely spend the day at the bent peg tomorrow as the weather is beautiful and we have a couple of kilos of whiting as bait. i hope it turns out good...
