Senseless Killing Sharks and Rays Ammo. Jetty.

There's an article on WA Today about the senseless killing of sharks by crazed fishermen on the Ammo. Jetty. It's not a good look so it's probably time to clean up your act or else you might lose it to rec-fishing.

Im suprised with all the bad

Wed, 2014-01-01 11:27

Im suprised with all the bad things that go on hear that its not closed off. If its not your hard earnd possesions getting stolen from the car parrk. If its not getting robbed for all you tackle and money on the jetty like what happend to Scano and all the carry on that goes on over night and rubbish on the jetty and under that all the divers find im so supprised its not closed off. If i was a regular there and one of the few guys that do the right thing i would be kicking some asses as once its shut then thats it

Apparently it doesn't have long left now. I hear that they will remove the first few slabs to stop people going onto it, but maintain it is a fish habitat.

Its bcoming abit of a sad state of affairs when everyone suffers for the few knobs, surely they could put cctv up or police it with under cover cops poseing as fishermen or something or maybe we take it into our own hands n sort it.

Wed, 2014-01-01 13:04

All this could easily be policed

but the fact is, they don't want nothing to do with it, no cameras, no vists from police/fisheries...

it wouodnt take that long to start weeding the shits out,

they know this spot is particularly bad, but they do nothing about it

Poor Planning

Wed, 2014-01-01 15:04

Ive always said that place suffered from poor planning from the begining. The main reason is putting the car park out of site from the jetty, leaving it prime for crime.

The fisheries don't go there for the same reason as every one else, They cant leave thier car out of site for one minute before it gets smashed and stripped of anything of value.

Looks like its days are numbered .

 The development of the car

Sat, 2014-01-04 14:25

The development of the car park was to accommodate the picnic area not for the jetty. The jetty was there well before the car park or the picnic area was built/designed ........ It would have been a logistical nightmare ($$$$$) to build the car park like you say. Dune regeneration might have had some input into the decision.

so when you say from the beginning do you mean over the past few years or when the whole area was built?

i am not sure of the solution .... Maybe to reduce what valuable items are in the car could be a start.

Long history

Sun, 2014-01-05 15:54

There is a long history with the area Michael . So not from the very begining. But in short , once the area was cleared of explosives and the jetty was replaced you could park within veiw of the jetty.

They always planned to have picnic areas while this work continued , but then they moved the parking area to the back of the dunes. The path you use to get to the jetty was the road, with a small carpark at the end.  If the place was busy you would have to park further away , but most nights you could get a spot and see your car from the jetty .

If they shut it...

...then the scum will simply relocate and cause problems elsewhere. Leave it open, and that way we know most of the other spots are reasonably safe...a diversion, I suppose...

Cctv the pricks

Fri, 2014-01-03 16:41

Make it available to all with good quality cams and also have them in the car park.

Might help deter a few.

Honestly I don't get the stingray fishing? Why not just float the bait and stick with sharks??

I personally havnt been to

Mon, 2014-01-06 13:47

I personally havnt been to the warf purely because of what i read about all the break in's and all the crap people cause on the Jetty. It wouldnt last long, I would go off the deep end (figuratively speaking ;) ) and seriously injure one of the people causing crap.

You know what people like that are like, They give the quiet people are hard time. But the moment they get dropped and made a fool of, They go running to the authority about it or come back with mates.

A few people i have spoken to go to the warf every now and then, They clean out their cars before they go. Once they get there, they leave the windows down and the doors unlocked. It wont necessarily stop them from going through your car, But it will minimalise the damage to close to or completely nothing.

and others like it have been done to death, its not something that we can do anything about,if you knew that the people doing this was on this site then could understand perhaps shame them get them kicked off the site etc. if not suggest pressure fisheries / ranger /council on an ongoing basis ,untill something was done

I disagree franterie

I believe there's a part Recfishwest can play in this by approaching the City of Cockburn and working with the city to try and get some improvements to the car park and promote Jetty etiquette so every one fishing the jetty knows what's required of them.

all im saying is

Tue, 2014-01-07 05:11

pressure the local authorities ,otherwise you would have to resort to physical confrontation and then one wouldnt be better than the other, jetty etiquet ? never been there ,never will go there but from what has been posted imo only fisheries /court action/police could resolve, and no amount of posting is going to resolve, just to go further these delinquents dont deserve this attention.

Media

Mon, 2014-01-06 21:18

Get the media on to it, ring the tv stations, write letters to the editor of the local paper and the West Australian and front the local politician and give it to them.

They pretend nothing is happening because nothing goes further than the local cops if something is reported and then its too late anyway.

 Ok - My 2 cents.its pretty

Tue, 2014-01-07 02:14

 Ok - My 2 cents.

its pretty simple (as another poster said) you dont need to elave ANY valuables in a car , parking at ANY beach/jetty etc etc.... This happens along the stretch of coast from floreat to scareborough (dog beaches). Its a well known issue and by doing what the other poster said remvoing all valuables/leaving car unlocked or windows down generally nothing ever happens.

but hey I am in NY and there has been 3 murders since i have been here ( shootings) and a man has thrown his baby off a 10 story building to get back at his wife. as scummish as these juveniles are (and yes if caught they should be punished but will get a slap on the wrist) , we live in a pretty good F****** country compared to the rest of the world.

Definitely a valid point

Definitely a valid point Terboz about livin in a good country, however the people who committed those 3 murders were unlikely first time offenders and would have started somewhere.

the shark head and fins where from a processed shark theres no bins there so they have to be thrown back in the water! as fot  the sting ray there was no reason for it to be cut up the way it was
