sambo and snapper secrets
Submitted by Velocity5500 on Thu, 2013-03-07 14:01
I recently moved to perth from Northern territory and am a mad keen fisherman but am used to barra fishing. I just brought a boat down here and really feeling out of my comfort zone as to where to target fish as the ocean is a very big place hahaha i know how to use sounder and have been looking for lumps but cant really seem to land any decent fish any hints or tips would be much appreciated. Cheers

What location
And does your maps cover our local water?
Put snapper & sambo's in the search box on the left that may help a little as well.

i haven't had any success in
i haven't had any success in the sound, but then again i dont fish there often... google "D9" and cockburn sound. you should find the lat / long. it is a wreck of some sort, a bulldozer? easy to pick up on the sounder. try burleying up around there. north metro - the gemini wreck is marked on the charts, about three miles (??) out from mindarie marina in about 30m. good spot for sambos on jigs and i have picked up that dhu in my avatar there. got to beat the professional dive boats there...

I've caught a few snapper in
I've caught a few snapper in the sound now, and have never fished deeper than 10m for them, so my biggest tip is to grab a marine chart and concentrate on the edges of the sound and pick out any drop offs/lumps within a couple hundred metres of shore/garden island. That's just how I fish for them and works for me
