Saltiga s extreme reels

I have been looking for a nice jigging combo and the Saltiga s extremes caught my attention. However, after a fellow fw member revealed that they were out of production, I'm hesitant. On top of that, a guy I know quite well who is in the tackle industry told me to stay away from them because daiwa has been known to randomly "replace for free" the whole drivetrain upon it's first service. This really rang the alarm bells, as a reel with the price tag they carry shouldn't need anything "replaced for free" , especially after only 12 months..
Does anyone have any further knowledge of this or even any experience with these reels, good or bad?

 At the current run out

At the current run out prices they are hard to pass up mate. This is the first issue I've ever heard them having and I doubt if this was even the case it would a a very few isolated ones. They are a tough reel and right now excellent value for money. I would be very surprised if you ran into an issue.

The old S-Extreme reels are 2001 technology. The new catalina is the latest thing out, it has ten years newer technology in it. Why would you buy a reel that is 10 years old? I'm not say the S-Extreme are not good but for that money you can get better

Yep they are the old model but the S extreme, had an updated drag as the originals had a bit of a sticky drag. My Expedition is still going strong after 6 years of abuse and counting.

the "updated" drag was just drag washers that had a tighter weeve creating not as much friction meaning a smoother drag, the new UTD is alot smoother then the onld models. The S-Extreme also had 2-3 less bearings I believe
