Rod recommendations
Submitted by Daneox on Fri, 2016-01-22 12:11
So a mate of mine has been given a Saltiga Dogfight 7000h and a JM Power Spell PE7, both spooled up and ready to go.
(Yes, given....for free....and no they weren't acquired in a dodgy way)
The problem is he needs a rod for both of them.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a rod to match both of these?
Preferrably try to keep the price as low as possible, but all recommendations appreciated.
Cheers

Need some more details
boat or land?
what is he trying to catch?
What pound line are they spooled with.
both heavier setups than most would use for the majority of uses.
while understanding that you want to keep costs down. No point having such quality gear on a Kmart rod.

Thanks
Thanks for the reply.
Boat for the Jigging Master obviously, most likely boat for the Dogfight as well.
Not too sure what line is on there, but it can always be changed. The bloke he got them off would've been doing some serious fishing so I assume the line will be on the upper end of what the reels can handle though.
More looking for an all round rod rather than targetting something in particular. That being said, he probably isn't going to be up at the Montes every second weekend popping for GT's so nothing that heavy.
Yep, I understand that they are heavier reels (I was drooling over them even though I would struggle to ever get out and use something like that properly).
You're right, no point putting those bad boys on something cheap....but no point leaving them in the cupboard because you can't afford a rod either.
I can see a few good compromise rods that would be ok without breaking the bank (under $500ish) but I was hoping to get a few suggestions too.

If it was me
I would be offering the dogfight up for sale to trade or sell to get a great combo worth the same price.
The power spell would great on a JM rod, fair few up for sale here too.
I have a JM power spell rod (not for sale) which I love .
Others include the live fibre venom.
I like my demon blood in pe 2-4, assume heavier ones okay too.

If it's for Perth use mostly
If it's for Perth use mostly (or even WA use mostly other than certain specific uses) I'd sell them and get something more suitable.
I.e. JM PE3 or PE5N and a Stella 5000
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
