I've had no issues with my Carmate and that thing has done some K's.
Other tubes to look at are Nature Boys rod case, Plano or SportsTube guide case.
I liked the Carmate for the lightness when empty. Although they might seem flimsy when they're empty, they pack well when fully loaded with rods and packaging.
PVC is ok for DIY, but its heavy, and worse, very brittle being a short chain molecule. I saw my own rod case made from PVC pipe smashed in mere seconds of handling by some incompetent moron at the rotto ferry.
G'Day hoookt, we stock the Plano extendable heavy duty (airline) rod case. Extends to 2.8m with adjustable hight points and holds many rods at 210mm diameter. Lockable, has wheels and a Lifetime warranty, sells around $189 then less Fishwrecked discount.
Happy with my Carmate so far. The black foam/rubber at the end does tear awfully easy though. Don't bother buying the optional lock, as it is a waste of money. It still requires some tape across the top door and adjustable pin to prevent it busting open.
The other advantage of the carmate, aside from being light, is that there is a grab handle anywhere along the length of the case. This allows you to hold it along the 'centre of gravity' so that it balances in your hand while you carry it, depending on how you pack your rods this will change. Some rod tubes have wheels on one end and it isn't so much of an issue.
I got one of these. Really good padding. In them. They are a cross between a hard case & soft bag. I rekon you could fit up to 10 rods in one (depending on rod length).

The carmate is a different level of business:

If no one of the sponsors can help you, best bet is shippingthem out of singapore probably.
