Reel Problems

Hi Guys

Got a new Penn Jigmaster rod and reel combo for christmas from BCF, was about to put line on it but i noticed it has no guide to spread it evenly on the reel- just 3 holes as shown in the picture below.

When i fed line through the middle hole it just piled up on itself.

Am I meant to feed it through the 3 holes? There were no parts that came with it

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Ben

Hey mate , you go over the top and guide the line with your finger. That would be my best guess as i have a daiwa sealine sl 50 sh. All overhead casting reels (torium, sealine , trindad....) are build like that. you couldnt cast a line with a fixed guide.

Cheers seb

Level wind

Hey Ben

The particular reel you have there doesnt come fitted with a level wind to evenly lay the line for you. As Seb mentioned run the line over top. Just lay the line with your thumb. The level wind isnt necessary though in some applications can make life easier. Enjoy the new prezzy though!

Nice casting reel

I have one myself, BUT be prepared  for a couple of overwinds, takes a bit of time to get used to. Just adjust the free-spool drag nut on the left properly, and it will make life a lot easier. One other tip....be VERY carefull throwing into wind, I usually don't even bother. I also find wetting the spool helps with overwinds, but that might be personal preference!

Another thing, I only use mono with mine, and nothing less than about 25lbs, thinner than that gets stuck in between the spool and casing.

Have fun
