Reel help
Submitted by Trevor68 on Mon, 2012-08-20 21:19
Hi all
Ive bought penn 30 Vsw second hand but it didn't have any rod clamps. I was wondering if it's ok to run 50lbs line on this reel without any clamps. It is mounted on a t-curve tiagra 24 kg rod will any damage occur to the rod or the reel. I've got a rod clamp on order but it seems that they are more rare than a winning lotto ticket and I estimate I won't have a rod clamp with in 6 months so does anyone know where I can get one quicker.
Thanks
Trevor

fine
will be fine, but you can buy clamps.
I got some recently for alot of my overheads that have a ring underneath so I can attach a lanyard to it. Nearly lost a couple of reels overboard and off the beach recently

Oceanside - if you also have
Oceanside - if you also have them available for a Ocea Jigger 4000P (reckon the Trinidad ones would probably fit) please send me a PM.
But Trevor - whether it is fine probably depends a bit on the reel seat on the rod. I had mine on a Deep Jig 200 and it was fine, but on a different brand rod I found it would torque around a bit under load. Its now on a Smith and is fine, but will probably get clamps for piece of mind
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
