recommended metal slice designs for tailor

looking at purchasing a bunch of metal slices for tailor but im not sure which pattern to go for. do i go for the classic slice shape (eg. Halco Sliced), a curved shape (eg. Halco Twisty) or a shape with bubble holes in them (eg. Halco Streaker)? what's everyone's experience with those shapes?

halco twisty

halco twisty in my experience is by far the best allrounder because of the good action from the curved shape

Try the chrome Raiders as well for a bit of variety even the big gold one.

PULLTHE STICKERS OFF THEM

Wed, 2010-01-06 21:29

pull the stickers off the raiders and polish them with silvo and replace treble with a big single chemically sharpened hook - deadly on salmon and tailor

in my experience

tailor dont care. I usually have twistys, but thats because I have them in my tacklebox. I'm sure any of the "metal slice" variants will be just as effective.

But then again, I can take you to a tailor spot and they wont touch a metal slice if you cast it at them all day - throw a s/p at them and you'll catch a bag full. Weird...

I'm gonna have to ask for your man card. Men the world over are staring at their monitor in disbelief at that comment.

I prefer Sp's , Huggy

Wed, 2010-01-06 19:08

I prefer Sp's , Huggy converted me. and i've caught a whole lot on sp over slices, but if you can bomb a hardbody like the crystal minnow or Xrap 6 or 8 you will outfish slices every time.

I do have a fair few twisties in my tackle box for when i need that extra bit of casting distance

Yep - any metal will work. I try to avoid using twisty's off the rocks - they tend to break if they get knocked around.

Tailor.. Salmon.. Herring.. anything really chasing bait fish will get suckered for most anything you can throw at them. Cheap, expensive, home made, etc.

Well huggy took me out

Wed, 2010-01-06 21:13

Well huggy took me out for some wicked tailor on plastics and other people were using slices, and getting zip

  • Less snags
  • More hits
  • lower hookup rate, but you drop less fish
  • Losing a plastic is about 2$ as apposed to 5.50 for a twisty
  • More action in the lures

Yeah crap forgot to add that one in!

Aswell as, you can 'suspend' the lure mid water and hop reef without insta snag

Get the tin foil from a packet of wrigleys chewing gum

Thu, 2010-01-07 15:51

Chew up the gum and twist it around a hook just below the eye and then wrap the tin foil around the gum. Tailor will eat anything shiny that moves.
