Breaking the law to stop someone breaking the law is not right. Doesnt matter how you spin it 2 wrongs dont make a right. There are the right ways to handle things and wrong ways, and supporting a group that promotes piracy and flaunting it in peoples faces just because they are fighting a "immoral" act is BS....Sea shep are simply terrorists...just because they believe something is wrong, and you believe it is wrong doesnt mean everyone agrees with you and them. Look at it impartially, Why should you force your beliefs on a group of people that have been effectivley living that way for generations. How would you like it if they came and forced their beliefs on you...
Sick of the hypocracy required to support these groups....
(edit) - I should point out I dont in any way have a issue with people protesting, infact I whole heartedly agree we should be stopping both whaling and finning in AUSTRALIAN waters where I believe we have every right to enforce what we see as appropriate LAWS. However I dont think we should be forcing our opinions on OTHERS in their or international waters.
the blokes canadian... fk off back to canada and kick up a stink there...
if they had it their way, no one would be allowed to catch a fish...
too many treehuggers / whale lovers...
its like the stink about the sharks.. i understand they are the apex in the oceans. its their domain and all that jazz- whats the use of being a human if we cant assert ourselves- WE ARE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN. END OF STORY.
i dont agree with shark finning - but if the meat is harvested and used- wheres the problem? its a food source. im pretty sure indigenous people hunt elephants and tigers and lions n what not.. if u eat it- its ok in my book...
you are on about enforcing Australian laws in Australian waters I sujest that you have a look at who is whaling in Australian waters but this and past governments don't have the ticker to put a stop to it. correct me if I'm wrong but isnt finning against the laws in Australian waters.
Unless there has been a recent change-no its not. As said, would it be smart to kill sharks for food and throw away the fins which have higher value? As with whaling-im not for it personally BUT minke whales are not endangered.
Maybe, just maybe before you jump on people you should check what line your being fed, and by whom, and what their motivation is. For example, most the articles you will read about whaling in the antartic will not say AUSTRALIAN WATERS, instead they will say Waters AUSTRALIA CLAIMS as AUSTRALIAN.
NOTE : When a vessel is in international waters the only laws it has to abide are those of its flag nation. IE Japanese whalers that are not in Australian waters are not breaking the law to actively whale.
What your refering to I believe (correct me by all means) is the japanese whaling NEAR waters that Australia Claims off a section of the Antarctic. The issue here is that these waters are claimed but not necesarily LEGALLY reckognised globally....(I can steal a boat and claim it is mine, does that make it the truth?!?)
As for finning I am sure that it does take place illegaly and I would love to stop it in our waters due to the cruelty, however I dont have any issue with shark fishing for the meat, the same as dhuie fishing for the meat....(edit) Note - the illegal part here is that the vessels that are doing it are not Australian and dont have permission to fish Australian waters, not that sharking itself is illegal.
Another thing, when did the Aussies stop Whaling do you know? We are not that innocent in this..
Sharkfinning - I doubt any of it is done in Australian water by Australian boats - As Wadray say's its done by boating fishing illegally in our northern waters.
I'm sure many rec fishers would be against shark finning and dumping the carcus overboard, catching a (whole) shark to eat is a different matter. But sorry for me I would not even think of supporting something like this. The reason (as much as I'm against shark finning) there's no way I would add my support to a protest such as this due to the crap 'extremist' enviormental groups are pushing in realtion to Marine Parks/Sanctuary Zones. I used to consider myself a green fisherman but now anything green just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Yep I have no idea if its the case but I'd have to wonder if they are also pushing sharkfinning as a reason to install santuary zones during the above (given some of the stuff they push in this regards is so far off the mark)
Just like the green idiots protesting against uranium minning in SA - want to ban all uranium minning and just leave it in the ground. - guess that just leaves Coal as a main electricty source (that'll help the enviorment) and heaven help them if one broke a leg and wanted to get an x-ray or many other medical proceedures which use uranuim.
Sorry but that's my view - I better go gargle to get rid of that taste.
Just want to point out that shark finning means, catching a shark cutting off it's finns and dumping the rest.
If you are shark finning and harvesting the meat as you have been saying, that is called commercial shark fishing which is not what these people are doing.
