9 month ban or 363 day ban?

Tue, 2022-08-30 06:57

So is it going to be a 9 month ban or a 363 day ban? Question 14 asks the respondents the following:

"Do you support the recreational fishery transitioning to an individual days fishing model in the medium term, where each recreational fisher would be allocated two fishing days each year to fish for demersalscalefish in the West Coast Bioregion?"
Two days per year? WTF???

The other thing I'd like to know is why is a current fishing or charter license not a prerequisite for responding to the survey? While we boycott the survey, sign petitions and write letters other stake holders are free to respond and select which of the three shit sandwiches is preferebale to the West Australian recreational angling community. Give me a break, the whole consultation process is a sham, the survey is designed to get the desired pre-determined outcome while ticking the public consultation box!

which is exactly why it is better to email the premier, minister punch and your local member direct ,,

telling them exactly that and more

petitions are ok , but it has more impact to email direct ,, as often and as many as you like

its up to recs to actually do that in masses , or others will have their say and we all will be shut out again

i cant urge people strongly enough to get active ,, even an email every week to the above

Abolutely!

BTW, DPIRD responded to me with my question whether they will oppose dredging of Cockburn Sound for the outer harbour, their response is they have a $13.5 million research project to inform those decision!   It's a f'n bad idea and I don't think we need to spend millions of dollars to work that out!. How about the governments saves the tax payers dollars and puts a fork in the development which would be a policy decision consistent with the onjectives of these current demersal fishing proposals.

Tue, 2022-08-30 17:24

The outer harbour is a big factor in the proposed demersal closure. WHEN not IF that project starts they are gonna to kill a massive number of fish and putting in the closure will help them fudge the numbers that they haven't killed as many as everyone says. They will be able to say demersal stocks are still recovering so the outer harbour hasn't done damage.

Your wasting your time sending an email to the premier, it will automaticly be sent to Punch ( at  least he will get it ) I sent an email to the premier about the royalties we get from iron ore mining. It went straight the the mines minister and didn't even cross McGowans desk. My bitch was that the iron ore belongs to the people of WA and we should be getting a greater slice in royalties. Currently there is a system in place that takes in all the mines and a 7% royalty is applied which in my book is not enough 15-20% would be better. Think of thhe reshearch that could be done with extra money. As well a pensions. homeless, hospitals and better boat facilaties along the coast, instead of waiting for some money hungry developer to do it.

All emails to the state goverment are vetted and passed to the relivante minister.

Wed, 2022-09-07 18:04

Cracked the 10,000 mark this morning. A lot of smart blokes on here so I'm asking the question. What numbers would get this seriously considered and what more can we do to get it recognised and signed?

10,000 is a good milestone but...

Thu, 2022-09-08 06:25

This will get recognised, but opponents can easily point out "750,000 rec fishers and only 10,000 signed"?

  • get your families to sign, they are also affected even if just by eating your fish, or your mental health. Just that alone across the board could potentially double numbers.
  • Networks and friends outside the West Coast region, share it. They are also affected, by the spill over fishing pressure and bag limit reductions proposed for South Coast and up north.
Make it easy for them, send the link, tell them how important and that they will need to enter their address etc

Problem I have is that putting us in the same category as the commercial fishos is bull&^$#. I don't go out and catch crate loads of fish. Want to look at sustainability start with looking at the greed of market place in that "the more fish we catch the more money we make in the market.$$$$$$$ I don't make a profit from catching 2 fish it cost me $50+ and I'm contributing to the local market. "Recreation is good for the soul" "God helps those that help themselves" TOO much of help themselves! Stop fu%$#^% over the rec fishos and cut the commercial money grabbers and the Bloody Tourism train that you seem to be on. I for one are Fu%$#@$# over it !

Tourism,Tourism,Tourism,Tourism,Tourism "ENOUGH" !!

Thu, 2022-09-08 13:06

Only problem with that is there are a lot of people who rely on buying fish who would not be able to. Also the restaurant industry would also suffer. Sure there are other options besides demersals but if I'm consuming in that way it'll almost always be demersal. I agree that the commercial licences need a lot more focus in all of this.

 Yeah mate I understand all

Thu, 2022-09-08 13:41

Yeah mate I understand all of that but we are being told the stocks are really depleted and the quickest way to replenish the stocks is stop commercial fishing. You do make a good point about the hospitality industry as they  taken a massive hit the last few years.  If we cant possibly buy out the commercial licenses because of these reasons then they need take a good reduction of there tally like we are going to have to.

Im not sure if it can be done so this might be silly saying but has anyone tried to farm pink snapper like they do with salmon in tassie? Will the pinkies not survive being high in the water column there whole lives?

Speaking of the people in charge, I got a Westport update via email yesterday.

If the stock levels are at such a critical point of not recovering quick enough, why would they do works within the breeding area that could risk a whole breeding cycle or 5?

I've emailed every member on this list that isn't a member of the ALP with a link to the petition and a short spiel about why I personally think  the government need to come back and negotiate. Already had a couple of replies and been told the members will sign it and promote it. Let's hope they follow through with there words! The more emails they get the more likely they are to do something.
