Prawns in the Dawesville Cut

Hi Guys and Girls!

I am new to the site and reading all the posts has got me excited about going fishing again.  Anyway, I am heading down to Dawesville Friday after work and was thinking I might try a bit of dabbing for prawns off the boat in the Cut.  Haven't done it for a few years though and not sure what time of the year you get them etc.  Does anyone know if there are any about at the moment?  Cheers.

I wonder where they went?  Were they in a boat do you know?  Or just dabbing around the shallows?

I dont know about Dawesville but i have been crabbing and prawning in mandurah on and off for the last month. The prawns are few and far between and a bit skittish depending on the day. When I was going it was from the bridge in mandurah with a long net, and we were having to wait till about 3am till they started appearing and then we got about 1-2kg - worked out sooner rather than later that it was not worth the effort. Crabs are a different story though!

Hope that helps

Yeah.  I know what you mean.  That's why I haven't been for a few years.  You can buy them from Mooka down at Pleasant Grove just past Miami shops.  They are the same tasy prawns and as fresh as.  Better than any you will buy at the shops.  You can get them from their catch only a few hours earlier.  MMMmmmmm!  But it is still fun when you catch them yourself.
