Maui jims bronze for my day to day. Got some smoke flying Fishermans that I prefer for offshore and looking at spreads.

 As I have over time

Wed, 2016-11-30 19:37

As I have over time developed a bit of a obcesive compulsive dissorder for good quality GLASS lens Polaroid glasses - Maui Jims - last time i counted i have 7 pairs -  bronze, grey, rose and blue lens's - I still have my first pair I bought over 14yrs ago and where them regularly - I use them for their awsom lens quality and salt water durabilty.

Bronze - low to medium light - esturary / river

Rose - for driving

Grey - Riding

Blue - Deep sea - high glare - I swear you could almost weld with these there thaf dark....

The only advice I can give is by GLASS only and BUY overseas if possible - cause their Freaken expensive here in Aus

Otis Glass are very good aswell - check out sunnyside website

Ive stopped buying Spotters, the last pair were pretty ordinary and I found the cheapies were just as good, no more $300 Spotters or $500 Maui Jims.

Maui Jim in Bronze

The oversized ones fit a big head like mine comfortably

I slay the crabs scoopipng with them and great visibility on the ocean

Edit: If you've got a big head and the spotters etc don't fit well the model I suggest to check out is Haleakala

Used to buy spotters

Wed, 2016-11-30 20:48

but the last couple of pairs have been Maui Jims always go the glass lenses though , one bronze and one blue pair.

Wouldnt go back to spotters now just feel a bit clunky n heavy in comparison.

Maui Jims

Peahi's with the bronze ultra thin glass lens.

Best sunnies by far for me, frames and lenses.

Previously had Otis, Spotters, Mako and Oakley.

Spotters amber photochromic.

Thu, 2016-12-01 04:57

Spotters amber photochromic. I wear them every time I set foot outside between sunrise & sunset. They perform best for freshwater/estuary but they are good enough to get by on the blue stuff. 3yrs & they are as good as new. Seriously, there's not a mark on them anywhere. Considering what I put mine through, it really makes me wonder how people treat their glasses when they say Spotters don't last.

 Had Costas and the lenses

Thu, 2016-12-01 06:02

Had Costas and the lenses were very good but the frame disintegrated around them over an 18month period. Have Maui Jims now and I like them as well.

Cheers

Sleek Xl Photochromic, I like them and wear them all the time, cracked the glass on a pair that I had for 6 years couple of weeks ago and picked a new pair $150 so not too pricey.

Maui Jims for me also, found them to be the most comfortable. Not the cheapest around, but they are great quality, and comfortable when wearing all day long !

Mako's for sure, driving and general wear the Rayban New Wayfarer Tortoise shell (Polarized).
Have tried both out scooping for crabs and swear the mako's are better.
Have a nephew that comes scooping during summer, and he uses my glasses for this as he is a poor student. He grabs the Mako's before I even have a chance.

You guys are lucky. I am

Thu, 2016-12-01 08:38

You guys are lucky. I am short sighted and that leaves with very few choices.

Wanted to go Maui Jims, but either the frame I want couldn't fit the thickness of my lens or they couldn't make it any thinner. Spent at least 3 weeks going in and out of Bupa Optical to find a solution but couldn't find any.

At the end, my prescription sunnies from Spotters solved the problem.

Had another pair of Rudy Project prescription (they have separate lens clipped onto the sunnies) but the clarity and contrast ain't as good as Spotters.

With low nose bridge, my choices for sunnies are even more limited. :(

Just bought a pair of Spotters 'Cruiz' with the ice blue lense. Did a bit of research and apparently the blue lense is best for high glare and bluewater. Which suits most of the fishing i do perfectly.

I've worn my mates Spotters with the penetrator lense, while they work great and you can see detail under water I didn't particularly care for the way they showed colour, which seemed very unnatural to me.

Used to have a few pairs of Makos. Last two lenses have been some iridium thing from OPSM with Oakley Frame. The Frame for comfort and the lenses for refelction. As my eyes are rooted and have to wear visual aids I havent bothered not wearing anything less than polarized sunnies for well over 10years.

As I work at sea my main focus is about the glare. They come in handing scooping or checking out the beach conditions occassionally

My first ever pair was Mako's

Sat, 2016-12-03 23:02

My first ever pair was Mako's with a poly lense. Was real happy with them for fishing and driving. Just grabbed another one in the GT in rose glass and its even better.

More importantly though they fit my head perfectly.
