Poddys New Boat
Gday all....
thought it was time i chucked a few pics up of the new (2nd hand) tub i picked up.... Almost soley to be used as a dive boat but can be fished out of... Its a 5.3 fraser fibreglass hull.... Fairly old but with abit of work its gonna be sweet. Come matched with a 100hp 4 stroke motor that im absolutely in love with after having 2 strokes previously...
so far ive stripped all the old electrics - wires ect old sounder mounts and general tidy up....
installed new navlights , humminbird 757c gps sounder (nothing flash but was on special at BCF $500bucks down from $1200! absolute bargain and does the job nicely on a wet open boat) marine radio and a few other bits n pieces... Outboard cover should be here monday hopefully and its starting to look very good...
Got gun racks down both sides which are awesome for keeping out of harms way and sooooo much room for extended trips (dirk Hartog here i come)... it is a wet boat but hey im going diving anyways lol
the trailer does need some work but ill get to that eventually....
During the closure i plan on gettin the hull rubbed back and some work done to it - new paint work and some patching and gonna change the old metal strips down the sides to some new rubber buffers.
Megan had the choice of names and its going to be called "Shoot To Thrill"
Finally took it for first dive trip yesterday and it went so well.... Motor didnt miss a beat after service (which it shouldnt) and we got some nice fish....
Place was alive with dhuies! Never seen so many in one day - Total for us was above 20 with ease altho not alot of size - still fantastic to see... At one stage we had a just legal female competing with a school of skippy for burley right under our fins in 12m of water! this fish had balls!
Seen a couple more blue groper and a swag of small trout but sadly none of any size... Also swam with a big school of YTK which is a fish ive never seen before but again they where juvenile fish so left be...
Bought home 1 5-6kg dhu 2 nice groper and a good parroty so a good day in great conditions for us.... Keep yes peeled for more dive pics and video to come from "Shoot To Thrill" guys...
cheers poddy

easy fix mate
just put some extra adjustable rollers on either side of the keel when you fix up the trailer. you can get an adjustable threaded rod with a swiveled "T" roller pretty cheap, and they could be drilled straight through the SHS that runs paralell to your axel. the more points of contact between boat and trailer, the less point-loading you do, and better for the boat. you could even do that before you do your trailer overhaul, as it would be that easy mate.

Boat renaming ceremony is easy and can be made into a great excuse for a PARTY!!
There is a traditional or modern one but I love the traditional one as done over centuries.
It is a bit corny but then that is the excuse for the party. I had a mate dress up in roman soldiers gear he hired to rename his boat "Stuna" from some hopeless name previous. We all pissed our selves and well we all got there -- pissed that is.
Here is a link, but get more than one bottle of champers.
