Hi fellow fisho's, can any one give me some first hand info on these anchors . what I'd like is a pick that will hold well in sand but can also be used safely on reef, has anyone used either of these successfully.

Plough
Plough's make great mooring anchors in sand or mud bottoms. No good around reef though.
Haven't heard of a bruce anchor. Are they similar to a plough?

sarca
you need a sarca anchor mate the best ive ever used and all of my family use them as well the name stands for SAND AND REEF COMBINATION ANCHOR has a sliding shackle on the draw bar so you just idle straight over it to retrieve ive had mine for over 10yrs now without loss and has great holding power a bit pricey but well worth it

second that strike zone
once you have owned a sarca you wont even realise they make another brand! i use mine for everything! just be carefull not to over do it on the chain! a few guys went silly putting six metres of chain on the anchor and ended up losing there anchors not because the anchor was stuck but the chain was!! i only have two metres of chain on mine!! i can anchor my boat anywhere in any wind! certainly worth the money

Two anchors
You will find that if one anchor works well on sand it won't be as good on reef and vice versa. To fix that I take a made up reef anchor plus a sand anchor both have chain shackled on so all I have to do is tie which one ever one is suitable.
Some say the CQR anchor is the way to go but they get snagged just the same .
If I was going to lose an anchor in the reef I would rather it was a cheap one not one you may have to rely on later.

i would go the plough
i would go the plough anchor. we have one on a 23 footer and has held our boat and a 20 footer still in a 15knot wind , but if you are over reef i would go with the proper anchor as we have got ours stuck a couple of times but luckily got it out

anchors in general
Thanks for your input guys, our boat is a bayhunter 4.75 with 40 honda so not real heavy but anchors can be a pain if you move position a lot!!
