G'day all,
I've recently moved from Port hedland to Karratha and I'm basicly just starting to suss out the local waters and spots to go. The creek fishing is pretty much the same but not sure where to start out around the islands and beyond I have a 6m Quinnie so can travell to most areas ok
I don't expect anyone to give up there secret spots but a few pointers would be much appreciated.

I like a bit of a bottom
I like a bit of a bottom fish would like to find a NW snapper or gropper to chew on but I have a 11 year old who's dying to break in his new stick would love to hook him up on a trevally or a mackeral (he's landed a few rippers off Hedland and dreams of fishing 24/7)
I'm just looking for a starting point for the young fella then will no doubt find some good ground in time I don't mind putting in the hrs and get out most weekends but have not done all that well in my last few trips.

Welcome
bare rock is pretty good at the moment for mackies. few snapper out around roly rock, the patch (neer the ship anchorage) or the pipeline, you just have to get em in before the sharkies get em. good luck mate
I live with fear every day... sometimes she lets me go fishing.

pipeline
I hit the pipeline on the weekend and got SFA. The water was really dirty from the big tides. All I got was one little red and a few under size bluebone. There wasnt even many sharks there this week (which was a nice change). A few other fellas reckon that they got a few macks on the patch but had trouble beating the noahs to get them in. My nieghbor got a 17kg spaniard and a nice size cobia there.
Cal if you head out behind rosemary island there is good ground for reds and if you drag skirts you can pick up sails. The pipeline is good because it is close and you rarely come home empty handed but it gets hammered pretty hard and so does the patch.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about
Yeah I wouldn't worry about the pipeline too much, get's hammered pretty hard and it's pretty hit and miss.
I would just head out wide behind rosemary and sound around for some good ground, chuck lures out while you're looking and you might pick up a mackie or two.
