Perth to Gero - quickest way

Hi all,

I am going up to Exmouth in 6 weeks time.  My question is " which road is the quickest to Geraldton- Brand Hwy or the new Indian Ocean Drive through Jurien?

Thanks in advance

IOD is quicker

although if your travelling from south of the river in Perth, that may change. The only other thing is, depending on the time of the year, the number of caravans on the IOD can be huge.

Good scenic route on IOD. Brand is a pretty good run these days. If travelling alone I take Brand. If I have company I usely take the scenic route as I am not in a rush.

must agree IOD, pretty fast roads with heaps of overtaking lanes and not a bad drive either.

IOD

I dont really like the IOD road, where it joins in south of Dongara there are next to no over taking opportunities for about an hour, just a handful and if you get unlucky with traffic the other way, well...  I only do it if I'm not in that much of a hurry and want to have a look over the water.  Some times its been great, quite a few others is been frickn painful. Generally its the Brand for me, more trucks but longer straight stretches and trucks are doing atleast 20km faster than the nomads.

Towing a boat

If you are towing a boat recommend Brand Hway. IOD north of Jurien narrows a bit and minimal overtaking possibilities. Also last time I took IOD had a tourist park on a corner near the ocean. Near miss and lucky nothing was coming the other way. Also a lot of Kangaroos and Emus on IOD even during the day.

I run from perth to dongara

Tue, 2012-03-06 17:36

I run from perth to dongara often from the north suburbs near wanneroo road.IOD is 15km shorter trip than brand but by the time you slow down for jurien etc it works out about the same,Sometimes slower if you get caught behind traffic normally between leeman and brand highway turn off.I normally use IOD now as when i travel its usually quite (friday arvos and sunday mornings usually) Also use a bit less fuel on IOD as less hills etc and usually have a howling seabreeze behind me!Only go brand now if i know IOD is going to be busy...
