Pelagic reels and rods

Hi guys i am new to this site, i have been involved in the breaming scene for a few years now looking to get into more offshore and sports fishing. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Pelagic Rods and Reels. They are on ebay and look not bad rating etc. Any info would be great

Cheers rossco

My experience with gear, If it aint in the top 5 popular brands its probably for good reason. If a tackle store doesn't back it up, don't buy it. Tackle stores are there to keep people on the fish, ebay stores are there to make money.

what are the top 5 popular brands? there is loads of gear that i'd buy that isn't 'popular', but still very good. but yeah, gear exclusive to ebay is generally very crap

There are ofcourse obvious exceptions such as megabass, avet, blue heaven, jigging master, quantum etc.

I'm sure the top 5 brands will be different depending on the market and area.

There are loads of brands over east that we havn't even heard of here but the the shimano/daiwa/plueger/abu/penn would probably be my list although i'm not in the tackle industry.

Had a pelagic high speed overhead reel and was really shite. The gears sounded like they were grinding all the time.

China has a lot to answer for!!! makes you wonder when they advertise 8 foot "GT Popper " rods that are suitable for jigging as well!!!! People still buy their stuff and leave negative feedback when their $26 reels pack it in after one fish or the guides fall out of their $38 graphite beach rod!!

wonder why...............

Had a mate that bought a Pelagic bait runner, he thought he'd scored the bargain of the century. Two hours into its first fishing session he hooked up to what would have been a nice trevally around the 10kg mark. Lets just say that what happend next amazed me...the reel literelly buckled and fell to pieces in front of our eyes. The dragged stopped, the handle wouldnt wind but instead went backwards under the pressure of the fish. That reel cost him the best fish of his life!!

So in sort.. give them a miss, because paying the extra money will avoid the heartbreak of something like this ever happening.
