was anybody using the other side and floating them straight off, we used to do that about 15years ago, then come back into the jetty to pick the driver up.
think i remember paul g saying no drive offs allowed
i've never seen it that busy , but I'm normally earlier
I swear the ramps must work like surf breaks , you get the early crew as above , then the ramp quietens down for a period before all the guys at gentlemens.
Yeah, it's an absolute joke up there, you think thats bad, you should see the train wreck when they all come in to retreive. I keep hearing that something is going to be done for the last few years, i thought they actually shut the ramp down last year to put another concrete base down but i dont think it happened. Perhaps Paul G could throw some light on it for us ??
The ramp was run by the marina operators before but now I think the yacht club has a finger in the pie somewhere.
Certainly a lot more crowded since I lived there but then Easter and public holiday weekends were pretty busy. We sometimes put the boat in the night before and left it on anchor to the left of the ramp to beat the rush next morning. Great when you only lived a couple of minutes away.
weekend fishing- no thanks. Give me a nice quiet weekday any day. Not looking forward to tourist season when the crowd migrates north and the country ramps look similar. I dislike it now when there are a few cars infront of me. I got caught behind one a few weeks ago that took over 10 minutes to retrieve, we were out in 1.
looks like you would have needed a tank of fuel in the car just waiting to launch. pacience is a virtue they say. stuff that , i would have gone elsewhere
Two Rocks sea rescue would be loving it considering the $7 goes to them. This is why the marina owners (who are Japanese from memeory) wont do anything and gov't dept wont assist as privately owned marina. Catch 22
Would rather carry the extra fuel in the boat and launch at Mindarie.
Was just as busy in Dampier yesterday Neels. We joined the line in the back carpark of the yachtie near the walkway to the fuel jetty. Cars+trailers were parking up near roadrunners it was so busy. Took a while but everyone was cool. Just beat the rush home which was good too :-)
You want to head to Hillariies- and Ocean reef Marina next Saturday morning from about 5 till 6 am and watch the madness unfold.
It is the day of the Bluewater classic, run by Marmion angling club!

absolute chaos in Ocean reef as the competing boats have to stay inside the marina till the signall has been given, then watch 100 odd boats try to cram through the entrance all at once!
40 boats would be more like it I launch there in the blue water and it is a breeze no real dramers. Getting in or out. The comp is a great event and is run by members of the Maac hats of to them all as they do a great job see you down there.
Just rang the marina manager and had a chat about the ramp and who is responsible for it's upkeep.the ramp is leased to the yacht club not the air sea rescue.the money's collected go to the yacht club.it is there responsibility to clean the ramp of slim that is all.the manager of the marina told me there is no plans to upgrade the ramp or provide toilets or wash down as the local vandals would soon trash the new buildings which is probably true. they are fitting cameras to the ramp for those driving on and off ,I have bee sent a letter telling me if i am to be seen again i will be stop using the ramp and marina area by court order. They have been hitting the ramp hard and a number of people have also received these letters.the ramp lease is up for renewal in 2014 and nothing is or will be done until a new lease has been secured.I have rung the yacht club and am waiting there return call I will be asking them where the money's collected go and what insurances they have.As I have been told they are not responsible for any one slipping or injuring themselves on the ramp or jetty. As far as I know they must be covered with public insurance. If they are collecting money which is running a business .and it is compulsory to have insurance. I will update once I have spoken to the yacht club commodore
Powering on and of you trailer is not allowed on the two rocks ramp.there is a sign at the top ofnthe ramp .it's the big cats and larger boats that drive on at 1500rpm and hold themselves for up to one minute for there crew to get the shackles on .this do do damage to the ramp.I only use power for two seconds but it is still powering on so I will be using the momentum of the boat to get her up most of the way and the old winch handle we have to come out.
The problem is it is a private ramp.so I don't think it comes under the same rules ,not sure.I do now if the ramp was not leased for the next two years it would probably be bulldozed as it is a liability for the owners.
Why dont people use the side without the jetty, just have the skipper in the boat and launch it? Most ramps up north have no jetty and big sideways currents and we all manage. When i was down at christmas we used that side of the ramp at two rocks and were the only ones doing so. Is there something I'm missing?
It can be down without powering on or off. Just launch the boat, let it glide out a bit then fire up and move way. Retreving just line up the trailer, shut the motor off and glide in to the trailer, person that reversed down grabs the bow then hooks on and winchs up. Not drifferent to when you use a jetty. Is it alright to do that???
yess it is the correct procedure for the ramp loading /unloading the boat away from the jetty not at the jetty i invite you and some others i know to come down to the ramp and assist/help/explain this procedure
Gotta be something someone can do surely!!!
It is pretty average considering how much money they would be collecting on days like that......7 bucks a pop adds up pretty quick!!
W e had a write up in the local paper on the ramp ,then on the next page was an article about government grants for boating ramps .I did ask the guy on the ramp about it and he said well until the new lease is signed no is doing anything. It's not there money why not write a letter I think it's all to hard .all they have to do is sit back and collect the money with minimal effort.would like to know what they could do if we said we would only pay $3 as this is all it is worth.

Fishwrecked members are only a small fraction of the total users of the ramp, you'd have to advertise widely to get others in on the act.
During cray season almost half of Two Rocks, Yanchep and St Andrews have pots and do the run daily to check them so they are the ones you would have to get involved if you want to succeed. It would be a waste of time talking to the marina operators because though they own it they don't see a big enough return from it to spend money improving or replacing it.
Many years back we tried to get the excavator operator to lay stones down the west side to form a jetty of sorts when they reinforced the breakwater but he was told not to do anything to it.
As Toni said it's a tricky one because they could just shut it down and then we are without a ramp.I will get in touch with the yacht club again and Suss them out.
You keep saying join the yacht club and help fix the problem.sorry but as far as IV been told the yacht club is not prepared to do nothing towards fixing the ramp.why would I join the yacht club .unless I had word they would spend my money on the ramp .there is a lot of money taken at the ramp most weekends and I see very little going back into the upkeep of the ramp .Can you tell me where all the money's collected go..I think the ball is in your court, you come up with the goods and shown me that the yacht club will do upgrades to the ramp and yes I would consider joining and doing my bit.
You are spot on Paul, seems like every cent collected goes towards the yacht club but as he stated, nothing towards the ramp upkeep, that is unless they are having something to do with yachting and the jetty needs a sweep.
As yacht stands for Yet Another C@#t Having Trouble and if you talk to so of them they think they are God's gift to boating.
ramp is very good for a 2tonn swl boat/trailer combo , boats/trailers combo over that should be happy to launch there, not happy then ,boat ramps to suit the bigger can be found a www,.boat ramps

There were boats also coming from the marina end, once boats were launched they had to then get through this mess to park trailers.
We thought we would beat the rush and get there at 5.30am but every man and his dog had the same idea!

Only been out of Two Rocks once a year or so ago - we were there at 05:00 - 23 boats ahead of us........
Never been back since
However, just for the record, I am pretty sure that this is a private ramp, so no state funding etc

You want to head to Hillariies- and Ocean reef Marina next Saturday morning from about 5 till 6 am and watch the madness unfold.
It is the day of the Bluewater classic, run by Marmion angling club!
Last year was very entertaining to say the very least!
absolute chaos in Ocean reef as the competing boats have to stay inside the marina till the signall has been given, then watch 100 odd boats try to cram through the entrance all at once!
Will have camera rolling!!

a observation
If the bloody ramp was properly constructed and maintained , as a giant thick slab of re enforced concrete
driving on and off would do bugger all. The ramp has slowly broken apart over a period of time and now that its
had the bung , there doing what they can to keep flogging a dead horse, all the while charging you/ us more than ever
before to use .
One would assume ( lawyer speak ) gentlemen , as the honuorble paul g suggests , by a business charging you for a service or hire
they should have public lib insurance , and within that insurance , the insurrer would expect the business to take
all steps to ensure there facility is maintained to a standard and a duty of care for users of said facility.
http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/mediafiles/mar_guidelines_design_launch_facilities.pdf
this above is what should cover the two rocks ramp, please read and make your own mind up if it complies.
thanks

Spot on
You are spot on Paul, seems like every cent collected goes towards the yacht club but as he stated, nothing towards the ramp upkeep, that is unless they are having something to do with yachting and the jetty needs a sweep.
As yacht stands for Yet Another C@#t Having Trouble and if you talk to so of them they think they are God's gift to boating.
