Dude, me, Daz and SamC all have ocea jigger nr1500p reels. Sweetst things, very narrow so you dont have to worry about laying line, Heaps of balls, but hard to get....don't think they make em now.......all other pe3 options seem wider.....my mate has a SOM blue heaven.....that looks very sweet.

I have the talica TAC8 and its just a bit too big for ~30lb, same as the Accurate BX400 and probably the SOM L50 really.

There is a new series of Ocea Jiggers out now, Seaquest has one, ask him what its like!

Another idea might be one of the new trini A series.

Why don't you get a Ryoga or Bayjigger? More of a Pe2 setup... and you also have your Twin Power SW5000 for the heavier stuff.

I have used them but I probably wouldn't get one in those sizes.

I tried the PE4 model seemed to have too long a handle for the very low gearing, the clicking is a little annoying too.

Thu, 2011-08-04 21:05

Its ok, there are other choices than JM. I've been through a bit of hardware and I'm reasonably happy with what I'm using now.

Either way, bit of a joke suggesting I move off to popping just because I don't rate the reels you distribute.

fishing is a seasonal thing and in SW WA this is very much the case.

TBH whatever it is you chase in your waters I couldn't care less. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

What does till think of the sound of the drag's on a stella ?

If you only knew what other products I distribute as well as JM.

I spend more time fishing

Fri, 2011-08-05 07:34

I spend more time fishing here than most and have plenty of runs on the board mate.

I don't tend to put up reports, only a few suprising and or unusual captures because we have all seen what fish look like by now.

I just think its a bit lame for a distro to knock people giving feedback on the product. Maybe you should list what other products you sell, just so we know what else your advice might be a little coloured on.

Im with Till

Fri, 2011-08-05 07:55

Hardly a weekend go by that we arent among the islands of Dampier fishing. Not being to techno minded, and a line in the water fishing fanatic, I totally "forget" to take snaps etc of conquest, unless it is most memorable. Id rather get back into it. IMO almost a waste of fishing time to take a snap of an average fish.

However I do like to share my knowledge and love off fishing, albeit limited more to what to do and terminal knowledge rather than knowledge on gear. For that I turn to Till and others to help. I wouldn't have a true clue in what rod/reel is better for what option, and prior to joining it was more match a nice looking rod to a nice looking reel. Would in theory end up with a Stella 20 000 for popping, and a 18 000 for jigging, on a popping rod.

Now I just ask the ones in the know, and I do trust their knowledge. If Till (and others) asked a question about how to fish up here, or the old stomping ground of Mandurah/Tim's/Whitehills, I would absolutely share what I have learned or know.

Thats how this forum helps. And we certainly all have our differences off opinion, and voice them. And that is to be expected on sites like this. If I disagree with Jamie, hopefully he cops it on the chin, or better still, analyse the debate. There is no offense intended, and Coxy thats how you read it.

Who are you talking to over east ? just sell it and get the new model with the 4.5 ratio this will fix your problem, good to see you have good taste in reels.

Thu, 2011-08-04 18:45

Yeah another vote for the Saltiga 30 or in this case even the 20. I've spent a heap of time comparing the 30 to the 30 Lever drag and the Talica 8 and also the dual speeds for both of the latter mentioned reel. The star drag 30 is the better balanced of all the above (apart from the star 20) and is the pick of the bunch. I've heard good reports about the Jigging master reels but have had no experiece on them first hand.

There's not much need imo to go with the Z30 as the standard 30 is so well built you'll be fine and save quite a few dollars in the process.

Another ocea jigger fan here, got a JM as well but use it for PE4. IN reality either are really nice reels when matched with the right rod. I have the 1500np on one of the new JM150 titaniums and I cannot think of a better all round out fit for metro. Got the PE4 on a 3 kings UL which is really nice as well if playing with slightly bigger more nasty fish up north.

No shortage of the ocea

Thu, 2011-08-04 19:56

No shortage of the ocea jiggers overseas, just some pretty hefty coin for a reel that is likely to involve foregoing the 10 year warranty.

Seems my plans of a cheap(ish) PE1 -3 jigger combo are unrealistic!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Jigging Master PE3

Thu, 2011-08-04 20:33

I think you will find that the new model Jigging Master PE3 reels have a 4.5 ratio not the 4.0 ratio that more than likely the above guys are talking about,  if you are looking for a real jigging reel that preforms straight out of the box there would be none better than the Jigging Master PE3, why would you buy a OJ 1500 that has a max drag of 7.5kg or a Z30 with a max drag of 10kg, we all know this is a lot of drag and will be fine in most conditions but I am sure the time will come when you want to try and stop some large sambos, kings, AJs or so on with it, no point going under gunned when you can get one of the shelf that will see this doesnt happen, and with a choice of 6 colours you can match one up to your rod perfectly.

Seriously? No better reel?

Fri, 2011-08-05 13:34

Seriously? No better reel? Even if you say they're the best for the price, or even one of the best, you're judgement is pretty clouded if you honestly think there is no better 'real jigging reel'. I've had a play with them, and landed some big sambos on one and I would still pick just about any other well known reel. Painfully slow too (and would still be with a 11% retreive increase). If you think the max drag of 10kg is not enough for a PE3 jigging reel, and thats some kind of problem, then you dont really understand the application. By that logic, the Ajiking samon z is clearly the best 'real jigging reel'. Having massive drag on paper doesnt mean much if it cant deliver it smoothly, or if its overkill for the line rating you're using. And real jiggers dont need 6 'pretty colours' ;)

Another one for the Ocea

Thu, 2011-08-04 21:19

Another one for the Ocea Jigger 1500. I have the latest model and I'm really impressed with it.

Its got more than enough drag for PE3. Managed to get 320m of PE3 on mine.

Matched with a JM150 and you can't go wrong. Great for working light jigs on big fish.

Knocked over heaps of sambos the other day up to 20 odd kgs way too easy.

yep, another vote for ocea

Thu, 2011-08-04 22:57

yep, another vote for ocea jigger.

My only gripe is drag capability, however, if you limit yourself to low powered pe3 & similar corresponding rod, it should be fine with occassional thumbing.

I run pe4 & have come across plenty of situations when I would have liked another 2, 3, 4 or 5kg more stopping power. I guess that's the problem if the reel is coupled to a pe4-5 rod.

Can't wait to match it to a JM 150 titanium soon.

After fishing so often & probably too much with egg beaters, having an OH in the palm of your hand is a nicety.

Fri, 2011-08-05 08:03

The Z30 is a lot narrower which helps a little for jigging. I did have a LD30II and sold it on. The LD20 single speed is an ok jigger for the cheap seats though.

Fri, 2011-08-05 08:25

Did you mean the Saltiga z30 v's the Saltiga LD30II? I thought you meant the Saltist LD30 because there is no single-speed Saltiga.

I haven't tried the Saltiga LD30II yet, just the Saltist LD30II. Bit of a pity they made them all two speed though. I think two-speed is pretty pointless in the smaller reels now, just more weight, more to go wrong.

Bit hard to understand why Shimano and Daiwa really don't make targetted lever drag jiggers.
