Pe2 Reel Help

Looking at getting myself a 3000 Daiwa or 4000 Shimano reel for light jigging/casting... (i know these things dont go hand in hand but im sure i can find a comprimise lol)

Been looking at the new certates, branzino's as well as the stella 4000..

what are your thoughts? what can you recommend ....

Smaller body on the certate

Sun, 2011-07-31 22:12

Smaller body on the certate but the spool depth is similar, certate is lighter but the Stella is a better reel (also a heap more)

yeh i have a 5000, looking for a 20lb set up... 5000 IMO is a 30-50lb reel (with a 6000 spool)... what did you end up getting btw?

I would personally go for a Branzino 3000.

Lightweight,  can cast and jig. However if you are using it for surface popperig and plugging then you need to put in a little more effort cranking it fast to compensate for the low speed.

A mate of mine from M'sia use that for light jigging and casting with ease. You can spool in a good 270m -300M of 20lb PE line depends on the line diameter.

I own a New Certate 3000 myself. I feel awkward using the reel for light jigging, not sure why but could be due to the short handle ? I am comparing with Caldia Kix 3000 that I used previously and the latter sure feels better jigging.

My 2 cents

reel advise

personally forget the stella , the certate (2010) is a better reel imo , i owned both now (granted they were in the small sizes (2000 size)) and the certate was a smoother reel that has lasted longer than the stella did, in saying that if you can wait till after the tackle trade show the new branzino will be released (as the old one is now a discontinued product) and im sure it will be an even better product than the certate 2010 and would be my choice for sure.

daiwa seagate 3500 light

Mon, 2011-08-01 13:15

$300 from campbells pro tackle cant go wrong its a cheaper version of the daiwa saltiga game 3500 fits 300m of pe2

but if you want to spend more $ then the 3500 game is your reel think that has 9kg drag and the seagate has 7kg

I recently purchased a Shimano Stradic 4000 I think this is a perfect size reel for 20lb gear. However you might want a better quality reel. But for 230 bucks at its a pretty good buy and a decent reel imo. Just depends on how much money you are willing to spend. By the sounds of it a Stella might be your best bet. Alot better quality then Dawai imo. Cheers

2nd on the seagate awesome lil reel!!!!

took it to dirk hartog and using placcies did really well on it. and the gear ratio would suit casting, but doesnt compromise on cranking power

I have a seagate as well, plus a Stella 5000SW. They are both great reels but hard to compare. The Stella is the best reel I've ever used by a country mile.

Mind you for the price it's hard to knock back a seagate. My 3500H has now landed a GT over 20 kilos and a Groper around 150 kilos among other captures.

Other reels mentioned above will do the job nicely but the 5000SW is by far the best IMO.

By the way I think I have a video link in that section of that Groper I got if you wanted to check it out. The seagate was flawless during the 45 minute fight.

Bunny you have deadset got your hand on it. I reckon that fish would be lucky if it went 149.5kg. 150kg FFS :-) top fish by the way!

Don't reckon you would have stopped it in deep water but.

Cheers

he he he. Hard to judge size

Tue, 2011-11-08 20:47

he he he. Hard to judge size when they get that big. It went straight out from the beach so I was surprised to turn it just before getting spooled. Had about 5 metres left.

My brother nailed a 25 kilo GT on the same outfit not long after in the Daintree river. That little reel has certainly proved itself.

Got acertae 2500 RH, higher

Mon, 2011-08-01 21:48

Got acertae 2500 RH, higher speed suitable for spinning, not so much jigging. Sweet reel. Stella SW4000PG low speed, sweet for jigging.

Although the Stella is definatley better, the certate is bloody good for the price. Buy the best reel you can afford.....you will never look back. It only hurts once.......

try a bradia 3000, love my 2500 apparently they are very simliar to certates except hey have a bush instead of the bearing in the handle and under the spool, i found mine for half of what you would pay for a certate and know theres a 3000 up for grabs for under $300. 2500 fits 250+ of 15lb sunline super. 3000 has 7kg drag..... great value for money reel. oh they also have a crappy handle not the nice machined one like certates and almost every other reel these days, only thing that lets it down imo.

Seagate

Wed, 2011-11-09 00:12

Had a seagate and loved it till about 2mths later when everything gave up but the drag,

All it was used for was drift baiting mostly for pinkies, took alot of pinkies ( 6 to 10kgs ) in that time but

would of thought it would handle that as you can knock them over pretty quick in 25m

and a mate has his less then me and i think he only hooked 1 avg. ray

and his done the same thing.

I use a stella 4000fd for most of my 20lb work and love it!!!
