Out wide today

Hey all,

Early start out wide today - awesome day offshore, before it blew 15-18knots (~1pm), but wasn't an issue being pushed back by the SW'ly

These GB Cods gave a descent fight, and didn't blow there guts out untile almost on the surface, so faught almost all the way!! Came from 200m, but probably had 280-300m of line out.

Overall, was a nice day out

Thanks

P.S. cheers Dave Xtreme Coolers - good warm up for the Vac Mach, no issues what so ever   .... fillets are only of the fish on the top photo, fat buggers

Great catches!  Interesting thou.  When filleting and storing in the past, i have skinned, as you have done by the looks.  recently, i was told to take the fillet off the fish and vac seal with skin and scales left on for best keeping.  Your thoughts?

Nice Haul there, Randall I prefer to leave the skin on mainly for ID purposes in the freezer.  I think it may freeze slightly better but not a huge diff

Randall - no sure about freezing quality to be honest, but I agree with Rig about ID purpose

Sammy - I've got a Daiwa TB 750 and a Miiya Epoch CX4 for the deeper stuff. Give me a call sometime, and pass by to have a play with them if you want.

Deep water fishing. It's a buzz. Nice work on some quality eating fish. Agreed - permanent marker with species and date is the way to go.

Deep drop novice, never done it, and trying that off Dampier whould be an epic journey to the deep stuff (beyond yonder).

Did you get the snaps that deep. Knew you can get them deep, didnt think that deep?

Cheers Mike - for some reason, and this has been happening for the last couple of times now, we get the somilar sizes as double/triple hookups. So the 2 big ones came from the same spot, then the smaller one from different one.

Hey Neels - Pinkies are from the same grounds as the Cods, but we never tend to get them bigger than that, at that depth!. Yellow-Eyed Redies are certainly on deep waters, and these are big ones, as they don't grow much bigger (30-35cm) .... great eating.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
