Oh oh! Cyclone + FW Exxy Comp = Not cool!!!

Oh oh.  Not looking too good for the FW Exmouth Comp guys and girls.  I'm heading up to Coral Bay on Sunday for a week and it looks like the weather could be a bit nasty looking on the BOM website.  Tropical low maybe forming into cat 1 cyclone by tomorrow.  Hopefully it fizzles out to nothing or at least hopefully for the comp, it has been and gone by next weekend.  This is my first time to Coral Bay too.

Everyone better keep their fingers crossed.

Stay positive guys, worst case scenario has the fish going off their nut pre-cyclone. Hopefully fizzle out out to sea and not effect anyone.

think you boys should be ok,

Mon, 2011-04-04 08:54

think you boys should be ok, it will climb to a CAT2 and drop to CAT off far north and track about 200 miles off shore, then sweep around the Exmouth area and head off to the Indian ocean.

I don't think we have the heat left in the Exmouth area waters to drag it closer to shore,,,,

Good luck boys with the comp and the three days before the cyclone movement should be hot action with the pressure drop setting the fish off...

30 deg is the top water temp

Mon, 2011-04-04 17:00

30 deg is the top water temp on the surface, the deeper water has the enrgy sink. You need to look at marine water profiles mate...

Three to foru weeks back the surface was as high as 32 deg and deep water temps upto 7 deg warmer than they are now.

have a look at deep sea water charts from Feb /March and see how we lost a bundle of heat out of that water. Not just the surface energy, cyclones need the whole water collumb to supply it with energy,

ok mate here it is for you,I

Tue, 2011-04-05 07:34

ok mate here it is for you,

I studied Engineering and did an extra credits in Climatology and Town planning,

have worked in Iron ~Steel, Gold, Uranium, Platinum, Nickel, Coal, Gas & Oil, plus cryogenics & pure gas technology. ( plus food technologies, owned a brewery and had my own engineering consultancy.... not being a smart ass, just saying what I've done...) I now work for a large international Engineering & Oil&Gas company, keep reading technology and science journals and stay up to date with world engineering trends.

so go get yourself a 4 year engineering degree, learn to never stop learning and listen to others in fields all around the world and you can to be Mr Slinky mate...

see my signature, it is never to late in life for people to stop learning, want to learn about climate and climate change, go do a online course through one of the USA or European colleagues, go to guest lectures, go sit in the back row of uni night classes for free ( yes no one ever asks you for your student badge...lol)

Go to that big block of concrete the young kids know little about, yes it's called a library and read some word on paper, not just the internet and Google...

Many forget that we put a man on the moon and built huge buildings and chemical plants, ships etc,,, for a long long time without a calculator or the computer or soft ware modeling,…

Just slide rules, log tables, pencils, paper and the human brain…

ps as I said not enough energy to keep this one going and it's off for now into the North West to fizzle in the sea, will it reform??? Depends on deep water energy and up currents from the Tropics, but it's late in the years and this one did not get a good energy boost from the Gulf of Carps / East NT regions.

A Slinky is also something that you push down the stairs and giggle at as it falls .

Now , about your philosophy , I'm truely interested to hear you elaborate on this ,

in simple speak" old farts

Tue, 2011-04-05 14:57

in simple speak" old farts like me should never be too old to learn new things"  not like many that stop leanring new things or accepting new things once they get past a certain stage in there life... bit like the old granny that went and got her medical degree late in life... you never too old to stop learning new things, just too stupid if you do stop...

bit like the "  teaching an old dog new tricks"

then again the youth of today should remember that some old dogs know a few short cuts young pups still need to learn.....

Now if we can the youth to think and not just google

and the old dogs to start learning again and listening to new ideas...

life will be a better place and a lot more fishing than fighting will go on..

ps Mr Slinky always ends up safe at the bottom of the stairs and only gets pushed if he wants to be pushed..

it was called the Firkin Centutrion lake and had a capacity of 27,000 litres a month.. ( yes you get a lot of friends when you got a lot of beer...lol)

We did ales, lagers and stouts, plus some specialities like summer cider, wheat beers ( Weiss) and even a honey meade...but that was long time ago...lol

Looks like the cyclone has

Mon, 2011-04-04 14:17

Looks like the cyclone has crashed and burned, according to the BOM, it's going out wide and may regenerate, but it's already weakened a long way.

Cheers

Somehow another oldish fart follow your conversation above

Thu, 2011-04-07 07:59

Tony

I somehow get it. In my job you better keep learning constantly or you are gone.

Also why would we be on here and not looking at other interesting stuff if we didnt want to learn more about fishing. You never ever fail to learn new tricks, and when you think wow, now I have perfected that, somones shows you a slight twist and you realise that its not that perfect.

Thats why I sit and play with known nots, try and modify them, to make them simpler and "hopefully" stronger, like my modified Palomar that I use when I am lazy to tie braid to terminal tackle. Stronger than a palomar, but not as good as others.

On here if I dont learn at least 2 things new a day I am missing something.
