Offshore Walpole

Hi guys, as I mentioned in previous post, I'm spending a week over Christmas with my extended family at Rest Point near Walpole. It's what we do every second year. The difference this year is that I'm taking the 6m tinny and not the 3.5m dinghy & whilst I love fishing the inlets there and will be doing it again, I would like to get out wide and see whats biting in more than a few meters. Problem is I have no idea where to go to find some structure. Now I'm not asking for anyone's favourite GPS points, I just need a bit of a steer in the right direction.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers all.

Head out around Goose and Saddle island, fair bit of ground off there.  If its a really nice day, head down to chatam island, long way but gold fishing.

Yeah off the islands is a good start, Chatam is a treck but as Adam said, goldddddd!

I dont think you'll have trouble finding some good ground and landing some southern beauties mate.

If you can get out about 10 mile or so all you need to do is find a bit of ground throw the pick out [you will find lumps about 20 mtr deep] then bring them up. Just watch out for weather [wind] as it can get nasty at times. Be aware of any wind forecast from South to East as you may not be able to get in. Good luck and hope you enjoy.

G'day Joodles,

We will be at Rest point from the 27th to the 9th. Happy to wander fishing the sandbanks for Bream and KG's but want to go out further.  Took the big boat last year (560C Barcrusher) but only got out the mouth once and swell was up. Will take again this year and the same as you am keen to get out into the deeper stuff.

I have been told of a couple of spots similar to the ones already mentioned, and the trek in and out is tricky even in fine weather. maybe we can head out together for safety in numbers.

From my experience after fishing Walpole for 30 odd years is that you really cant go wrong, I never tend to fish the same ground, there is plenty out there and all you need to do is sound around a little, it dosent get much pressure down there.

I have done well out around Goose island and the breakaway west of Goose as well as down point neuts way. Also you can head east over towards Rams head and there is more ground over there and on the way.

Been plenty of posts over the years on here about offshore at Walpole, try the seach function on here.

Thanks for all the advice

Thanks for all the advice guys. See now thats what I love about this forum, so many people happy to share advice, tips and fishing spots. I've been around on other sites for awhile and none come close to the generosity of the members here on FW!

As I expected it will all come down to big Mamma Nature letting us get out amoungst it this year. That channel can be tricky even in a kayak!

AnytimeBrad - looks like your profile pic is taken at Rest Point?

Hey crushed - thanks for the offer of teaming up. I would certainly be into that, only we will be gone by the time you get there! We are doing the week before Chrissy and leaving on the 27th when all the crowds arrive. Mate if I have anything to report from my efforts I will leave a message for you at RP reception. Gotta love the Bar Crushers! I was tossing up between a BC and a Stabi before netbank reminded me I could only afford a Quinny! Happy enough though.

Cheers and happy Chrissy fishing.

Shame about the timing, but it's a bloody great idea.

Wish I'd thought of that. Maybe next year I will get in early too. That would be great if you want to leave any info with Paula and Dave.

Funny I thought the same of Brad's avatar.

Yep love the Crusha, but all boats are a comprise one way or another. i still lust after the stabi and one or two glass boats, like Bodies Fury!Smile
