I'm guna use one in place of the sinker on a paternoster next time I take someone who wants to use bait, they'll probably hook the reef tho
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Heard many people say they
Heard many people say they are going to try that, haven't gotten any feedback (assuming it didn't work). Let us know how it goes either way.

In Jurien...
...the baldies and dhus love 'em. Just drop them to the bottom and leave 'em...usually get smacked very quickly.
Metro...all I ever got on one was a 50cm flathead. Dropped one into a raging school of sambos, which were hitting everything else, and it was ignored.

Only got rankins on them up
Only got rankins on them up north. Pinks dhus and snapper down here. Still yet to crack a red on artificial, I'd go a Big slab of redthroat or tuna for the win

Definately
Unfortunately I will have to agree with dumper, best chance of a red is definately a well presented bait but in saying that there has been a few caught here and there on jigs. I started playing around with jigs over two years ago first using Octo style jigs of varying brands , surprising quite a bit of success including the 18 kg dhuie in my avatar photo.persistance is the key mate

Ocky jigs
Yep Ocky jigs will work for reds up north, And all our local demersal species. Spent the day with Ryan out from Two rocks A little while back and the only thing that could raise a sniff was the Ocky jigs. Just remember to not get too crazy with the jigging motion. Little short sharp flicks with the rod tip whilst retrieving minimal amount of line is the go.

Lucanus and Octa's work well
Lucanus and Octa's work well for Dhuies, also the Sargeant Bakers too, which is handy for the bait fisho's on board.

I've caught pinkies dhuies
I've caught pinkies dhuies and bloody sambos on them. I always have one down the bottom letting the rocking of the boat work the jig while fishing and it always accounts for something.
cheers

Around Karratha
they are a fail for sure with reds (and as others have said for some reason they arent a regular catch on jigs and even placcies) - bait supreme IMO
However that is not to say dont use them, as almost everything else up north love them, especially Rankins and Coral trout. I simple drop the Octa style to the bottom, raise it a meter, place it in a rod holder and let the natural action off the boat do the rest. Might not be considered "active" fishing, but aggresive jigging doesnt work with them.
Have tried the ones with the Japanese name, Lacunas and other cheapies. The jap ones whose name I cant recal in a class of their own IMO.
