Ocean Reef fishing from a dinghy

Hi fellow fishers.  We have recently moved from Thornlie to Craigie and am interested in fishing out of Ocean Reef Marina.  My boat is a 4.5m f/glass dinghy and because of it's lack of size, I don't go out too far as a rule.  I mainly target bread and butter fish like whiting etc.  I know absolutely nothing of this area and am after any information about likely whiting spots.  I have a reasonable Lowrance sounder and usually fish for them in about 20+ metres.  But where do I find likely ground up this way.  Also, are there any hazards that I should be aware of once I leave the ramp?  Any information will be accepted with much appreciation.

Cheers

Baz

Hi Baz

Although I am sure you can catch them inside the 3 mile reef I have caught loads of fatter ones out behind the reef in the 20-30m mark from hillaries to mindarie.  Watch the swell around the 3 mile a good chart or gps should help you navigate the 3 mile easy enough as it does break in quite a few places.  If you burly up herring, whiting, skippy, demersals, sambos and sharks along with a boat limit of wrasse are regularly caught around the 3 mile which is well within your boats capabilities in decent weather

I thought there may be some reasonable ground out there.  I went out from Hillaries last year and got a nice lot and they were a pretty good size.  Will give it a go beyond the 3 Mile.  Thanks again.

Baz
