Notice to Coral Bay Fishers
After what we found this morning I just thought I needed have a little rant and make sure everyone knows the rules when it comes to fish offal while in Coral Bay.
Us, the charter operators provided and maintain the cleaning facility, its not the best in the world, but without it there would be nothing.
We are lucky to have a service that takes all the offal away for us from the filleting tables every day, This privilege will be taken away from us if what happened today continues.
All We have to do is follow a few simple rules:
* Offal to be put in provided bins or dumped at tip. (no offal to be dumped anywhere in the marine park!!!)
* Do not over fill bins, lid must fully close. (if they are full take your offal to the tip)
* Clean up after yourself. (hose and broom provided)
* Look after the tables, no hammers or axes. (you would be suprised what we see)
* Table are only for filleting fish (not backpackers making dinner)
* No scaling fish (it blocks the drain)
I have attached a few photos from my morning. It started by jumping in the cold water at the boat ramp and retrieving 3 full tubs worth of fish frames from the water. Don't know if someone was dumping their offal or trying to catch sharks but had it been left there, we would have had plenty sharks swarming around right next to a popular swimming beach. and then we go down to the filleting table to put them in the bin and find it in a mess. The afternoon before we had left if clean after we finished filleting but now it it was left a mess and all the bins overflowing. We called the guy who empties the bins and gave them a hand to empty all the bins partly by hand as the truck barely lifts a full offal bin let alone a overflowing one. While we were doing this we came across my #1 hate. A whole bunch of fish that had been killed and just chucked in the bin either half filleted or even whole. If you are not going to eat it don't kill it!!!!
I know most on here are not the ones that do these things. But if ever up this way (or anywhere) and you see anyone doing something that is wrong, dont ignore it. A lot of the time it is just down to them not knowing the local rules anyway. We are lucky to have what we do in the way of resources and facilities up here so we need to look after them both or we will lose them.

The mind boggles
What I would give to just have the opportunity to go out fishing those pristine waters for just a chance at catching some of those lovely fish!
To see how they have been treated / wasted by those that caught them really saddens me.
What a waste.
Well deserved rant indeed. Probably not stern enough given the evidence.

Absolutely agree with the
Absolutely agree with the rant and the above comment.
It is a shame that in 2014, people don't understand that we need to look after the fishery, and the 'free' facilities we are given or what we take for granted will no longer be available.

Thats just plain wrong
Agree fully with the rant and if it was me up there the rant would be more exaggerated.
Poor sweetlips and parrot fish, aswell as some average to eat trevors. Good to catch, bloody poor eating. Killing them for bragging rights at the ramp I suspect.
How many filleted fish? If it was a bunch of people sure they can do it, but filling all those bins in a poor way leads me to think it was only a few, because most of us would I hope have some respect and keep it clean etc. So no way bad limits are being observed there IMO.
5 wheelie bins that I can see full adds up to a shit load off fish!!!!

Yep having come back from there in may , and seeing the tables clean and well organised , as well people
observing limits and treating the catch well , this is a shock and a blight on the fishing community up there , cause
of the actions of some numnuts.
Tourists and non fishers see this sort of thing and make a sweeping judgement on us all, if you did it,
, if you wasted those fish , hang your head in shame and feel guilty, you got no friends here.

Faaarken cunse,
Not only the obvious, but a shit job of filleting the cobe as well.
Also those parrotfish are very rarely caught on line, and the sweetlip has what looks like a spear hole through it. I'm wondering whether the parrotfish was shot ?? Hopefully the culprits are aware of shooting cod and wrasse in the ningaloo marine park is illegal...

Woah, settle down big fella.
Woah, settle down big fella. If your so keen on the rules, you would know that parrot fish are from the family scaridae, not the wrasse family labridae. So, yes you can shoot anything with a beak within the park.
If you have any further queries hit up fisheries in Exmouth (who we got our info from, face to face at the CB boat ramp) or im sure Dane, Seaforce Skipper, or Adam, the owner, can point you in the right direction.
Not so much of a twit after all....

Well said Seaforce
Your rant was placid to what I'd have said about the oxygen stealers who do this sort of thing, bloody bastards that's what they are.
There is no excuse what so ever for leaving whole fish in offal bins.
Lets hope some forum member spots those responsible and puts them into the authorities.

why wouldnt
don't understand it we always filleted at sea and would throe the frames over the side once we had done the filleting we would jump back in the water when the filleting was finished and there would always be a couple of coral trout sniffing about that ended up on the boat but what they have done is disgusting why oh why would you catch a trevally and then just dump it

parrots and wrasse are different families
Yes you can shoot parrots family scaridae in the marine park. Wrasse are family labridae. So anything with a beak is fair game. We tell everyone in our park in Exmouth who asks not to shoot anything green or blue or if you don't know what it is. With regards to fish bins. I empty our bins every day and yes wastage and non filleted fish is a "very" common thing. With them parots and sweetlips I would say someone ie. half cut onlooker at the table has said maaate.... ya cant eat them things there rubbish so they have thrown them in the bin.

Its a small town. Small
Its a small town. Small enough that no one sighted them at the benches.
Should be possible to see who might of speared and binned. Who spears then dumps whole fish in bins en masse?
Someone went to the petrol station. Probably be noticeable on petrol station camera.
Shame there's no camera on the way in and way out road. Great way to pin down who might of done this.
Ring ahead and get fisheries on the road for a look out at a road block.
Seeing as the fish were speared probably good idea to go to spear forums.

Very sad to say that finding
Very sad to say that finding half filleted and whole fish in the bins just like cruzy111 in Exmouth is a very common sight. There is no real excuse for this but I would agree that most of the time it will be a half pissed know it all telling them its rubbish and to bin it. Badly filleted fish is also common, which is why we fillet all the fish for our punters on the charter. We put in the hard work to find the fish so we don't like to see them wasted, and encourage them to take the wings. We also try to help out other people with their filleting as much as we can. But you can't blam them all, as you have to start somewhere and it takes time to learn. As for the speared fish, we commonly find baldys and trout with holes in them, but most of the time that is just due to people not knowing the rules, not deliberately breaking them. Which is why we need to push the education side of things and point out when people do the wrong thing otherwise they will just keep doing it. When I first moved up here I could not find the rules for spearfishing untill I looked them up myself. So unless you actually ask you could assume it is all fair game, but with spearing as popular as it is, the rules should be in your face a lot more than they are. Main reason for posting on this occasion is that I was a little pissed after me and my skipper having to go for a swim to retrive frames from jetty only to find the tables in the state they where. Good to see there are so many people that do appreciate the limited facilitys we have. It my be the odd few that ruin it for the rest, but it doesn't feel like it sometimes.

good to see you fillet your punters fish seaforce :) Have had a few bags of unfilleted fish in our bins in the last few years in a bag with a name written on it so assume came from charters. I think with bad table manners its all down to long days on the water and alcohol. You shake your head sometimes at what people do.

Mmmmm . . . . .. yeah, we
Mmmmm . . . . .. yeah, we were there at this time and we saw the bloody mess that was left. I have my own suspicions as to who it was as there were a group down at the table quite late at night filleting by the light of headlamps. The facility was left in a disgraceful state. Odd thing was that whilst some bins were overflowing, others were partially full. Could have at least not overfilled them and washed down the tables properly.
Great place, great facilities and a really broad range of fish available. Numnuts like this will screw it up for everyone.

Cruzy111 comments
It's very sad to read cruzy111s comments that this is not a "once off" type of thing. What is wrong with people who do this type of thing, CB is a very special place in the heart of many sand gropers and other people who visit it. I'm glad to say that all the residents I have met at CB have been very friendly over the years that I went up there, after seeing things like this it would be quite understandable if there was a change in the atmosphere up there because of things like this.
I hope not, this type of thing is committed by and I'll say it again oxygen stealing bastards.
