Hahahaa - Ive been there and done this in a professional charter boat fishing for Marlin at Bermagui.

Backing up into following sea and we had water up to our knees in the cockpit. We had all kinds of gear floating around us. I said to the decky who was beside me, "should I be worried yet" - his classic response was "only if it gets that deep in the V berths". Note the decky doesnt look at all perturbed, he's got the the tagging pole ready to hit the fish with a tag.

Its only a still shot but in my experience at Bermagui they would stop when it was that deep and the scuppers empty that volume of water in about 10 seconds. Guess the boats are designed for it. Mind you we didnt have it up to transom height !!

Tried it with a crayboat...

...copped a greenie over the back. Way more deck space (and consequently way more water) plus 15 pots+rope+carpet, all conspiring to block the scuppers...fortunately, while listing hard to port, we were able to reverse into deeper water before the next one finished us. Spent half the day getting seawater out of the wheelhouse but!
