Yep, no different to day
Yep, no different to day time! Just can't see anything. Can't say they bite any better at night. It's good for something different. Nice sunsets! Make sure you take squid jig! You will see some big ones chase your deep drop lights up!

Deep drop night time
hey mate I have done deep drop during the night (commercial) and although we did catch some fish we found the fish bite better in the early morning/daytime . We did use big glow sticks and lights but had average results at night compared to the day . Other people may have had better results , I'm not saying don't do it that's just my 2c .
also be very cautious of ships at night .

Done Deep Drop
Commercially over east a handful of times. We always left at about 1am and dropped for Blue eye until sunrise then headed in closer and dropped for Greyband. Not sure what the reasoning was behind it maybe the Blue eyes come off the bottom more at night so maybe it's easier to fill the line. Not sure.

1000 mtrs
Have deep dropped to just over 1000mtrs both day and night but mostly caught Green eyed sharks at night compared to mostly Hapuka and Blue eye during the day, (Sea mounts between NSW and NZ) once you pass 100 mtrs it is mostly dark though to Humans. We used 80 hook drop lines with 12 bouys and a radio beacon with sections of train track for sinkers
Of course we had powerfull winches to wind in 80 little sharks on one line, was fun, interesting. Saw some squid that could eat you

Agree with the above, we
Agree with the above, we used to call em Spurdog sharks but they seemed to be called green eyes in the west are thick at night.
If we shot our droplines in the dark we'd have 700 hooks full of shark, You do get the odd Ling though.
Early morning the go......

Hard work...?
We were treated like slaves, 20 hr shifts in heavy swell. We would set 12 x 80 hook droppers and then have a quick snooze. Then we would wind in and have to process our catch before puting on ice. I cut the head off one of the thousands of Green Eyes I had to deal with and it still attacked me, took a huge chunk out of my hand.
The squid (bait) made us real itchy after baiting nearly 1000 hooks per drop session
Skipper was a complete fuckwit from Sth Africa and has later been busted and named and shamed on 60minutes for many illegal fishing activities, glad I jumped ship early.

A old pro long liner told me green eyes are great bait cut in half put on a hook and hapuka lovem
getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.![Wink](http://www.weldingweb.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Yep
Whole green eye fillet works well , tough and stays on the hook well which helps in the deep

Below 100mtrs it's always
Below 100mtrs it's always "night" the sun doesn't penetrate beyond that (depending on water clarity) so how do fish know when it is day or night at deep depths?
There must be more to these night/day experiances, maybe they can sense where the sun is or maybe their food rises to the surface to sunbake during the day and settles down in the depths at night, mysterious shit

Used to do heaps of
Used to do heaps of nighttime fishing from 80-380 meters, but as far as deepwater goes , I found the best bite time was an hour or 2 before sun up and from about 4 pm to 8 pm. Sometimes we d have big Ruby's going all day then soon as it struck 8 , nothing. But, also had a lot of spots that were night time only , generally in the 220-260 range , where they d bite all night. It was also noted , 8 bar (greyband ) definitely chew well into the night . the shallower stuff , 80-170 goes off at night . keep in mind this is 26 the parallel north experiences only , but I know guys down south that dong the puka at night
