New skipper wondering where to take my tinny.

Howdy, havn't posted much here i usually just lurk the forums but i need advice about boat fishing. I'm getting my skippers ticket through my school, im getting it this thursday at the boat shed at freo. In my garage is a 12ft tinny with a 15hp motor that no one has used in a while and i was hoping once i get my ticket, me and my older brother could try fishing somewhere around the metro area but i really have no idea where. I have also made sure the boat has flares and lifejackets.

Does anyone know any good spots where theres not too much chop and theres a chance of catching something decent?

Cheers,
Fisherman Mikey.

Cockburn sound has everything

Cockburn sound has everything you need, from fishing for an easy feed for herring, whiting and squid, for having fun with something with a bit more fight such as rays and sharks, or spending some time trying to get a big snapper or a mulloway.
The biggest tip I have is concentrate on the edges of the sound, areas under ten meters with structure or weed banks, you'll always have more of a chance to catch fish there rather then plonking yourself smack bang in the middle of the sound, where it can be quite deep but just a baron land with nothing to attract fish.
Good luck
