Netting..

I was down at a local spot in shelley a little while back with a few mates when I saw a bloke tryna haul something out of the water onto the bank. I wandered over to have a look and realised it was a MASSIVE set net with relatively small mesh. It had been set pretty much across the entire opening of the little bay I was fishing..
It was chockers with fish (tailor, undersize bream, bony herring)  and blue manna crabs. The bloke that hauled it in swore, said something about oversea's visitors taking all our fish, put all the crabs into his bag, then dragged the net over to the nearest bin in the park (it was a massive net bear in mind) and threw it away fish and all..
Just wonderin if anybody else has had experiences like this? And whether this is a common occurence in the river.. I probably wouldve called fisheries rather than put the net in the bin, would this be the right sorta thing to do?

WTF, are you saying the guy that brought the net in found it there and he didn't set it ?

I hope your not taking the piss mate, very serious offence for netting in the river.

Did you think it was his net

Did you think it was his net or someone elses? Pretty damn appalling either way. Whats so hard about trying to release as many fish as you can, even if some are dead :s

Thats the thing! He said "F@#k off, I didnt set it.." but then took a heap of crabs home for himself from it..?
Although I doubt he'd chuck his own net in a bin, wouldve been expensive
For me this is the only time ive ever seen netting happen in the river.. i wouldnt like to think its a common occurence
if i had my time again id probably call fisheries about the whole thing and told him to leave it. thing was he was an exceedingly angry 6 foot bloke and it was just me lookin on while my mates were fishing..

Yeah i reckon..
Can he be done for taking the crabs from it? Thought that was pretty off considering they were still alive and some of the crap he was saying about whoever set it..

couldve been i spose.. hahaha i thought you were sayin i was takin the piss. or trollin.
couldve been but i tend to think he wouldnt pull it in broad daylight, and also throw it in the bin. it'd be an expensive few crabs for him. but i guess fisheries wouldve sorted him out with something slightly more expensive..
