NEED ADVICE - Catching live bait

Can someone please shed some light on where I can catch herring, skippy, scalies, etc for live baiting.

I usually leave from Woodies Point and head straight out to the Sth side of Rotto. I know there are bait fish around the Ammo jetty but it's a bit of a detour and time is always of the essence when fishing. I've tried numerous times around GI and CI but caught bugger all except for trumpeter which suck as a live bait.

If someone could PM me some decent locations, bait and rigs to use, technique and burlying tips it would be greatly appreciated. I only want to spend say 1/2 an hour getting live bait and then heading off to fish.

On another topic, which of the FADS are firing at the moment, I'm thinking of taking advantage of the flat conditions tomorrow and going for some Dollies, Wahoo and YFT?

Cheers guys/gals...

are thick in the sound atm...however I think the squid are picking up...I'd be more inclined to go inside of the 5 halfway down the back of GI thereabouts been reasonably reliable for sandwhiting for us ....not too sure I've had that many in the bucket within half a hour though...

one of the main channel markers (structure) that go down into the sound, just use a lot of burley in a cage.

out from woodies will hold herring with a little burly they should be boiling! for scalies try the 20 metre mark in the sandy areas where you would usually fish for sand whiting! just use a bait chaser rig. sand whiting atre great bait but they wont stay alive too long in a bait tank!

scad amongst the sandies. always got them when the burley was flowing. anywhere fro just inside the 5 to just outside in any sand patch. even if the whiting die they are still top bait, small wrasse are good as well even a slab of the bigger wrasse work well
