NBN what a sick joke (not fishing related).
Is anybody experiencing massive corruption and drop outs with NBN today, the speed that I'm getting at the moment is so slow it would be far quicker to send mail via the snail mail even if we have to pay more for less service.
I find it very very frustrating to pay a good dollar and have to put up with such a crappy unreliable slow service, I don't know if weather plays a part in causing these problems or not but I had far far better service when I was on ADSL11.
How this country can say we will help the USA if things turn pear shape with Nth Korea I don't know, we can't get a damn internet service to be reliable after throwing bucket loads of money at it and taking away peoples choice of what service they want.
You can have NBN or NBN or NBN now what do you want.
Rant over

First world problems, as the saying goes
That said, we have had a lot of power flicks up here today, would be weather related. Pretty wild down there in the south? AFL Live on the phone wasn't as perfect as usual as it is at home on the wifi, so there might be speed issues. Haven't noticed it on the computer.

Yep NBN is let down. Once
Yep NBN is let down. Once you go to NBN there's no going back
night times are very slow with the NBN network being overutilised by the abundant of streaming services available these days
I work in the IT industry (managed IT services) and I can tell you the NBN should not be used as a reliable business tool.
there are other products on the market available to those who have the need for large bandwidth services, that have been made a lot more affordable in recent times

NBN is undoubtedly a shit
NBN is undoubtedly a shit job. Waste of money. Should of done fiber to the house now rather than have to rip it up and do that anyway in the next 5-10 years.
The bad speeds you are seeing are not the NBNS fault. It is a combination of things. The NBN doesnt gaurantee good speeds, it only allows ISPS to have access to infastructure that allows them to offer bigger speeds and more bandwith to their customers, IF the customer is going to pay for it.
If you stay on the same plan as u had pre NBN, it is likely that you wont recieve much of a boost once NBN is in, possibly for a little while u might, and possibly might rercieve more bandwith.
But basically the problem with it is, you pay for the speeds and broadband you want/should recieve, the NBN doesnt gaurantee it, it only makes it possible. Also the other problem with the NBN is we will see everyman and their dog looking to upgrade their plan, and thus increase the bandwith they are taking from the line. WHich has a finite amount of broadwith it can provide, so as every bloke takes up more, each person gets shaped more and more to allow every person on the line at least some access to the internet, resulting in most of you getting shite speeds.
On the other hand, if you are with a good ISP, or paying for it, you will/should recieve good speeds. Currently without NBN i am getting 13bits per second, which is 1-1.5Mega bytes per second download from a good server.
Fishing and catching are two different things. But i want to learn how to catch.

Yes I agree, they should
Yes I agree, they should have at least tried to make a system where there are enough nodes on each street not too far away from everyones houses and if you opt to pay you could have fibre all the way to your router.

The original NBN plan
The original NBN plan commenced by Labor in 2009 was fibre to your house.
Malcom Turnbull, then the opposition Communications Minister, promised faster construction time and cost, by using existing networks, new technology etc etc. FTTN and HFC was born. Australians voted and the rest is history.
We are left with a mish mash of networks some of which will be obsolete within 10 years and a network that although may be cheaper to intially construct will cost alot more to maintain than the initial Labor model.
The Australian NBN is the biggest con this century imho, but the majority of Autralians voted for it, so it is what it is.

no worried mate. However at the end of the day, especially in 2017 youd expext it should be a product that should work reasonably regardless if you are computer literate or not. NBN is undoubtedly a shit fest. Hope your internet speeds sort themselves out.

If Only
I am 6 km from Perth City, and we cant even get ADSL.
NBN is still 2 years away....and there is no copper left in the street to even connect a phone line to our house.
I know they are obliged to provide a phone line, so even if we got them to pull copper down the street, according to telstra there are no ports available at the hub.....we are using wireless and currently have no alternative.

3 years that sounds like a blessing
I would hang onto ADSL for as long as you can, the way NBN is going I don't think they will have the system fixed by then.

Had a call from Telstra today
Had a call from Telstra today advising my Direct Fibre line to exchange will be disconnected Next September and I have to move to NBN Cable. They will only be able to deliver beetween 50-100Mbps no Gaurantee. The sales lady could'nt understand why I wanted to wait till the very end before changing, they just dont get it.
Current speed 109.41Mbps going to around 80

Instead of spending money
Instead of spending 120 odd mil on a non binding vote it would be better spent on fixing NBN.

Well, my NBN got activated today at the house.
When I had ADSL through iiNet, my speed was approx. 2.5Mbps. I'm now with myRepublic NBN and my speed is around 30Mbps! Wicked!!

I just saw some guys one
I just saw some guys one street away for my place with a heap of conduit, a tunneling machine a about 4 holes dug. I suspected NBN which would possibly be a good thing for me since I'm 4 KM from the exchange and have really bad ADSL. I pulled over to ask them to confirm and they said yes, however after starting work they deiscovered the Fibre is already in and they are packing up....
What a disgrace! They don't even know where they have installed fibre and where they haven't!

Happy days
Got NBN yesterday. A good mate is a network engineer and recommended Aussie broadband. They are top notch, based in Melbourne with AU phone service and only sell 80% of their point of access bandwidth.
Got it yesterday and getting the modem sync speed at 50/20 which is what I paid for. Real time speed tests are returning consistant 48 MBPS down and 18 up...
In was worried because I have around 500m to the node.. Totally happy with this outcome. I was getting between 2 and 5 down before this. I can now stream 4K youtube videos constantly with buffering ahead of the play position....
Recommend ausie broadband (not australia broadband which is entirely different)

Another happy customer
Have had the NBN through Telstra for the past 4 or 5 months up here in Hedland - constant 48mb/s+ DL and 18-20mb/s UL, even during peak. Have been more than happy with the service, way better than the old ADSL2! Approx. 300m from the node.
