I guess people will buy them because they can now. I've been making my own for a few years and if you already make your own assists then adding a $1 squid and a 2c bead certainly isn't hard, and pretty rewarding.

wack them bad boys on ya chomped of pirates. not make em ya self because buy the time you get the skirt the little gem the glow beads little hooks and make em up its just easyer to buy em done i reakon.

if people could get there hands on those identical skirts alot more people would make there own
i make my own and the squids i have bought have never sat as nicely in the water as the pirate assists
and tend to clump together

You must be buying the wrong
You must be buying the wrong skirts Lewis, there's plenty on the market very similar to the Pirates.
Not every angler is the same, some find it easier purchasing them pre-made and some prefer the kick out of making their own.
Each to there own i suppose :)

I make my own assist hooks but have not been able to find these small skirts anywhere..
Most are a lot bigger and don't work as well..
so I'll be buying some premade...

No doubt the additional
No doubt the additional assist tinsel helps in most instances, particularly for first time jiggers and especially with baldies, but we have found a few of the flutter type jigs are better without the girly skirts.

yeh i have been making my own
yeh i have been making my own before but its good to get the exact pirate ones, especially to replace the skirts on the chomped pirates. got about 10 pirate bodies with no skirts haha.
