More sharking

Look out, the sharks from the barges are spreading! Had a poor innocent sand whiting taken from me right under the boat by a 6 ft bronzie (I think it was a bronzie?) yesterday out from GI. We might have to close the whiting fishery down if this continues.

Haha actually I usually bring a shark rig along for just such an occasion but ofcourse I didn't this time.
John, nah we got about 25 whiting, a nice skippy and a flathead. For the first 6 hours all we had was the skippy though!!! Couldn't catch a squid to save our lives in the morning so it was soft plastics all day until a random squid jumped onboard and saved the day!

I recall last summers beach
I recall last summers beach fishing produced a few pup sharks, which was fun. Hopefully this seasons beach fishing produces the same, plus more mullas.
Fresh pup shark, beer battered... mmmmm.

Yep, we got 5 small black tip reef sharks between 2 boats earlier in the year on a night fish on the 3 mile........beer battered, better than dhuey!
Not sure the bruisers out at the barges would be quite as succulent!

i keep hearing that sharks
i keep hearing that sharks are good eating but i can't bring myself to kill one.
maybe that should change considering the amount that are on the wrecks
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

i fish alot for sand whiting this time of year ready for our trip north just of garden island and we always have a floater out the back! sometimes we catch four or five small sharks in a few hours fishing, we only started doing this after our whiting started getting taken by something our little six pound rods couldnt stop! havent had any problems this year but its only early!
ALL FISHERMEN ARE LIARS EXCEPT YOU AND ME! AND IM NOT SO SURE ABOUT YOU!

Yeah I recon I will have a floater out the back always now as a little shark would be good to catch.
So do you catch whiting for bait to take north or what? They're everywhere out there, finding the big ones that are worth filleting is the trick.

ben
when we went out in the tinny the other day from point peron, we went over to the reef out from the point, anchored up on the inside and floated unwaited baits back to the reef.
we got done in numerous times with whatever heading straight under the reef and cutting us off.
dont know what, but did have some head shake to it so i dont think it was rays.
one day i will try it again with some bigger line.
