Monte's info
Up in Ktown at the moment for work for 3 days.
One of the blokes i work with said to me 'long weekend in 2 weeks, interested in coming up for a 3 day trip to the monte's...
My obviuos respone was.. HELL YES..............but need to check with the wife first :) (big year on the fishing trips for me!!)
Anyhow just chasing a little info of the place, we have never been there and taking a 25ft glass console over.
Anyone able to advise a good bay to stay in? we will be in swags for the 3 days.
Ive heard you can no longer buy fuel over there??? anyone able to confirm if this is now the case?
And lastly fishing, As we've not done any fishing in that direction. Any info on general direction and area would be appreciated. Is it quite easy to navigate following GPS charts?
Mainly want to chase trout, on plastics and lures along with some mackies and maybe some GT's however i dont think ive get big enough gear to take on the big buggers Brad gets out there!!!
Are we best to pick a location for camp, and just return to the same location, or move about?
Is it worth hanging in close to the islands to target bottom species? ie: trout, Rankin, Reds?
Thanks guys.

Ah chong
Thats a great spot for GT's. But you have to be careful as one side of the island is sanctuary zone and the other side is OK.
I would make sure you download a copy of the sanctuary zone maps to stay out of trouble, then drop anchor in the main bay just north west of Ah Chong. Good protection in there but I guess it all depends on wind direction.
Brad will have a much better idea of where to go, as we only did a small amount of fishing inside the island group and spent most of our time outside chasing Marlin and some awesome bottom bouncing sessions.
If the weather is good I would try tryall rocks for spaniards and GT;s etc.
Since I wasn't driving the boat when I went with Bernie I can't help you much more than that.
Cheers

Tiimmbo and myself have
Tiimmbo and myself have always done live aboard for our trips to Monties so I cant be much help with info on where to camp down. We have anchored around Trimouille before which has always been fairly pleasant but we have also had good weather most times.
Will PM you some areas to look at for different stuff, you will have a ball!

there's plenty of spots to
there's plenty of spots to camp, just find a beach area and watch the tides with mooring the boat though. I'd suggest camping in one spot for the trip as it will give you heaps more room in the boat each day. You'll never be far enough away from your camp to warrant changing spots to save fuel. There's so many spots to fish I reckon just find your own depending on the weather. We caught fish on all sides of the group and just fished where the weather let us. We didn't do any bottom bouncing either so can't help there, just grab a chart and look over some likely areas and check it out yourself.
Also there's NOTHING facilities wise out there anymore so take it all and bring the leftovers back with you. We took plenty and used some of it and didn't use other stuff. Next time we'll probably pack a little differently but that just comes with experience.
You'll have a ball, it's probably the most diverse place I've fished in WA.
ps. just watch the sanctuary zones, make sure you take a map with them listed on it.
Speaking of next time BB, what do you reckon??????

Camping spots
Nice spot is where the old house boat used to be. You will find that the mooring bouy is still there. There is some nice area to the right of it which is very safe.
Lucky Tim is right with all his info.
Trolling in between the islands along Trimoulle will get you heaps of coral trout.
Triall rocks to the north is great for pelagics.
GT's are everywhere.
I love the joint.
BYO lots of fuel and stuff to be self sufficient.

we had block ice in Brad's
we had block ice in Brad's esky and it was still pretty well frozen when we came home after 5 nights. Mind you we were only opening this esky once or twice a day and not really using it to cool much warm stuff down.

not sure
Not sure mate. We had the generator shit itself on one of our trips so ended up acquiring a fine taste for warm cans of export for the next 7 days. Can recommend warm exports at the Monte's.

Monties action
Champagne Bay is a great place to anchor and is protected from the wind and can be accessed in all tides doe to the deep hole on the eastern enterance. However the exclusion zone starts from the southern tip of the bay, so fishing is mainly to the north and west. Trimouille island is probably the best bet for the fishing that you are looking at with the bombies along the southside and good, gradual roll off on the eastern side. Dont be too fused about travelling too far to get into deep water for reds/scarlets etc as we generally fish for these within a few kms of the island, 25-30mtrs deep is heaps. Its all good over there with everything on offer, but my advice would be to fish on the way over (I assume with a boat that size you are leaving from Dampier, not Fortescue R.) as the fishing is better (IMO) on the eastern side before you get there. Start looking for ground a few kms before the first monopods (aim between Campbell and Sinbad) and drift the general area and see how you go. Once in the islands, if you dont have the gear to handle the big GT's, beg, borrow or steal something that can - you cant go to the Monties and not experience those freight trains! Hope that helps, was looking at going in the next few weeks as well - so if you see a black and white 750 Preston craft, come say Gday....

thanks for all the tips, yeah we are leaving from dampier. Tahnkfully sdo far the weather is looking pretty good.
We will leave first light next saturdasy and make our way over. We might take you up on your tips on fishing on the way over. Dotn pplan on taking any bait with us, just catch a tuna or mackie if bait is even required. i plan on using plastics, jigs and lures most of the time.
But would love a thumping red tho!
Im taking one of my okumas downt o ryan to spool with 80lb braid for the GT's!! :)
