I'd be hitting up Skilled and

I'd be hitting up Skilled and Workpac weekly if you want to get on a Rio site, they dont employ anyone at first, even if you apply for their job you'll be directed to one of those agencies. Woodside take on about 30 apprentices out of 1500+ applications every year. Get your HR and you should be able to find a driller who'll give you and offisders gig, from there you can start talking to others in the mining industry and with site/fifo experience you might score something a bit more enjoyable!

Best of luck!

theres a few threads on here with a lot of info about the exact same subject, do a search and theres a wealth of info and posts.

put in "mining job" on the search function on here.

One statement that someone made though, has stuck with me.

"Theres no shortage of unskilled workers", maybe dont limit yourself to "minesite apprenticeships" cos it could be demoralizing.

Look to Perth based service industrys or anything similar. Focus on the trade you want, and if you havent got one then beware that it may be a hindrance rather than advantage to aim wide. Employers want someone focussed to sign up for 4 years.

And to rock up and say you'll try anything may be interperetted as "you sign me up for 4 years and I'll see if I like it".

Preapprenticeship is the way to go.

Accommodation is expensive

Are you wanting FIFO, or are you gonna move home?

If you can get reasonable accommodation, there should be a good chance of obtaining labourer work in most mines as a contractor.  This will give you site experience, inductions etc and a "foot in the door".  Any qualifications will help - even first aid or experience like volunteer fireman etc.  Put ya name down at SKILLED  or  WORKPAC and hassle them twice a week.

Stay off the drugs.  You will need a clean drug test to enter most worksites, and cannabis can take weeks to flush out of your body.

Nearly everyone has to start at the bottom, but if you can show commitment and good work ethics, the benefits are great.

Can you tick the box "YES" to aboriginal/ Torres st Islander.  Big mining companies want to employ as many as possible, and there are incentives to get our brothers into employment.

tickets

Like it has been said bother the employment agencys DT workforce is another good one, plenty of mines use these for backfill labour whether its trades or operations personel.A forklift, bobcat, doggers or even a scaffold ticket can be a toe in the door as most wont have any quals at all and when you get to site dont complain or fall asleep on nightshift.Have ago at any tasks as there are plenty that wont.We are in a boom again and there is abit around.Dont expect a six figure salary straight up and dont get disheartened by knockbacks.
