I fished it for gar & herring. Inside the marine is best if the swell & wind is up. Also caught plenty of tarwhine & squire on the inside.

Snapper, mullas & sharks also get caught on livies in the right conditions.

always get the herring and gardies there. if ur fishing on the inside of the wall keep your eye out for the resident sambos that hang around in close to the rock walls and jetties. fairly easy to hook them, wish it was that easy stopping them!

Mon, 2010-07-26 13:23

never seen 'resident sambos' but i know of people that have mistaken Buff Bream for sambos. they are big buffies at mindarie and they take baits too, not just dough and sea cabbage.

nah mate i know the differance between a buff bream and a sambo. i have hooked up 3 times to the sambos. twice was at the "little groin" but i got taken straight around the pylons at the thomo's house. another time was right near the boat ramp but also got taken around pylons.

baits like hole mulies or a filleted herring normally works. they seem to move in there during or after storms. i havnt used lures on them yet but i rekon they would nail a well prsented placcie. might have to head down there on friday as there is a bit of swell and wind picking up during the week

near the boat pens while I have been bream fishing at Mindarie. There is plenty of small bait around inside that marina that the sambos would be after.

Ive seen meter puls sambos, i have a pick somewhere of a little hammer head shark swimming in circles, i've caught pink snapper , seen big rays, saw this guy once fishing of one of the boats with 24 kilo stand up rod and nearly lost the lot. IE nearly snapped his rod..Didn't land anything. but there are big fish in there.

A good mate fishes for bream in Hillarys and pulls upto 40cm plus all the time. Actually uses it to practise for comps as it is very similar fishing to the east coast harbours.

Just cause you don't catch it dosn't mean its no there.

One point i feel is the clarity sometimes is outstanding so finesse is the key.
