Maylands Bream
Submitted by rex rider on Fri, 2014-02-14 15:04
The kids have been harrassing me to take them fishing on Saturday night. I was thinking of chasing some bream down Maylands way. I was looking at either out the front of the Maylands Yacht Club or around Tranby House.
Any ideas would be helpful.

Well, I've got to get back to work. When I stop rowing, the slave ship just goes in circles.

I have
I have fished from Maylands to Bandiup over the last two weeks and the bream have been going crazy early morning and late afternoon. I didnt get many around Maylands ( lots of blowies too ).
Pick of spots the last couple days have been from Ron courtny island( Ashfield ) and Bassendean near the small boat ramp just upriver from Sand Beach. Check it out on google maps i cant remember the street name there.
Make sure you get the best quality river prawns you can find, and don,t cast out too far, most bream ive been getting have only been a few metres of the shore, on the high tide just before dark and into the night untill the tide changes. Pretty much as soon as the tide changes and starts to head out, they have gone very quiet.
Hope this helps, cheers Grant.
PS; there are a few nice flathead in the area too.

i used to fish the area alot
i used to fish the area alot last summer, if u head right from the boat ramp bout 150 meters 2 banks that stick out with trees right on the edges and wooden posts sorta holding it all up and a little beach between them. if u fish from the closest bank and cast just out a few meters there was always fish there for me. some structure or roots or something down there that seemed to hold em, can be a little snaggy. havent been back this summer but would get a few everytime i went down. biggest was 30cm and even got my first flathead there (29.9 lol). good spot might have to head down myself sometime soon but till then good luck hope i helped.

Thanks for the tips. Went down slightly upstream of the Ashfield boat ramp. Picked up a dozen small bream. Enough to keep the kids interested for a while
