I took one from Perth to Karratha that went 10 foot. It was around 3" thick. Looked funny as walkin into the airpot with it hahaha.
Just bare in mind that if it doesnt fit on the plane with all the other luggage it will be on the flight after. I found out the hardway when i rocked up to karratha and was waiting a hour till they told me they couldnt fit it on the plane and it was on the next one.
You can have mine if you like. I dont take the big rods up there anymore

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Rod tubes
Jet Stars' domestic limit is 6 foot tops. Try the others especially airlines that allow surf board bags.

Hey mate, Virgin allow a 3m max height. More that enough for your rods...

Carry on into the cabin...
I'ved been advised that rods & reels cannot be carried onto the plane but must be checked as baggage.
