Marine Alert- Next week: Big swell coming.

I don't think I'll be fishing around the reefs next week:

**MARINE ALERT**
PLEASE SHARE

A massive storm currently off South Africa that is generating huge damaging swells and 100km/hr+ winds is set to deliver large swells towards Western Australia.

A super-charged open ocean swell is expected to develop, resulting in XXL waves across the South West coast of Australia.

18-20ft waves are expected to arrive in WA on Tuesday, building rapidly into the afternoon ahead of a peak Wednesday.

WE STRONGLY ADVISE BOAT OWNERS SHOULD CHECK MOORING LINES AND PENS AND ENSURE YOUR BOAT IS SECURE PRIOR TO TUESDAY.

MARINERS SHOULD MONITOR CONDITIONS CLOSELY THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND.

YACHT

YACHT stands for Yet Another C+++ Having Trouble, so after rescuing lots of them from running aground, having no working engine, sinking etc anything they do does not surprise me any more

Acronym

Sun, 2017-06-11 07:10

The acronym came from Water Police, and I had to agree with it when with Carnarvon sea rescue, we would have averaged 50/50 between power and sail boats.
The visiting yachts would misjudge the channel coming in or out and run aground, usually on an outgoing tide. Jon Sanders has had the misfortune of being towed in twice over a couple of years when delivering yachts from overseas to Fremantle due to gear failure, the first being put in the local paper and the second not reported after he asked for privacy.

Doesn't look like much will come of this for Perth, it's being pushed well north to Exmouth area. Strong high across Australia impacting on it.

Nothing really big predicted for the North

Mon, 2017-06-12 08:13

Fishranger has Kalbarri peaking at around 2.7 m early hours of Thursday morning, then Winderabandi Point at the same later on Thursday. Certainly sizeable, but not massive. That size should be enough to stop amateur use of the channel at Kalbarri.

Madora

Thu, 2017-06-15 06:30

Swell never really got up at Madora... Was bigger last week. There was a runabout washed up on the beach at Madora but. When I was surfing I could see it down the beach with a few police inspecting.
