Mackerel Islands - January?

Hey guys,

a few mates and i were looking at going up to the Mackerel Islands for 6 days.  Just wondering if anyone has been up there in january and

1- if the fishing is any good

2- what the weather is usually like

3- apparently most of the things on the island is closed.  anything that we would need to take ourselves that they normally would have available.

thanks guys :)

Cyclone season mate, you've got a good chance of loosing the whole trip, but apart from that the fishing is good if the weather plays the game.

 they are open but you'll

they are open but you'll have to be self sufficient as such, i'm sure thier store is still open but at 50% normal rates it's a bargin and even if the wind does blow there are plenty of land based fishing to be done. Drew and the crew can drop you to spots all over the island. I can't wait for trip #3 next year

yea i heard about the cyclones but are they there that often?

I believe it is in one of the 3 bedroom beach houses at 50% off so its quite a good deal accomodation wise.

One of my favourites.

Did Direction for years in the 90's till it got a bit dear and they weren't doing maintenance on the hut.

Have been to Thevernard 3 times, that is THE spot as it is 10-15k,s closer to the drop off. Winds could well be a problem and you could spend a week watching your boat bouncing on the mooring.

The last trip up there we had a lot of shark problems, not sure what they are like know.

Lol, not many easterlies in January Snappermiles.

Mainly south in the morning, swinging west in the arvo. More windy days than calm but if you get a window the fishing is good.
