Mackerel Island off Onslow - Reason for closure
Submitted by dalaisc on Tue, 2012-09-25 08:13
I thought I read a few months ago that the resort was closing because Chevron bought out the lease.
In today's West Australian paper (page 1 of West Business) it states that the Mackerel Island's is seeking to lease 80% of its accommodation to Chevron. Good news is that they will keep 20% for us fisherman.
Looks more like a business decision rather than their hand been forced.

20% is fine with me, happy to be self sufficient and as long as we still get the beach front cabins i'll book now for 2013!

I believe it was the Shires decision as they wanted to lease out the entire island to Chevron. They are already taking bookings for next year- prices only available to the end of March though.
