Yep I agree, you can't beat the old QANTAS lure, but there is heaps of others that work too, it's good to have a few different colours and diving depths in your box. Halco Laser Pro 190's and Rapala X Rap Magnum 30's are my 2 favourite lure types, colours- dorado, hot head (orange/yellow), redhead whatever tickles your fancy... For joining the lure you can get particular and do a haywire twist from your lure to a swivel, only needs to be about 30 cm long, I use single strand wire for this, as an alternative you can use them clip on wire traces, they would work fine too i guess. Ihope this helps, good luck
I know up at steep point the best in my experience is the nismster invincible 15 & 12cm deep divers, yellow belly's colour number 66. I only know the colour number cause i just orded some from itackle for the upcoming yearly trip
I love the Sebile Magic Swimmer 228mm fast sinking. It has a segmented body and gives off lots of vibe and flash. Their red head has a very silver body.... a killer colour combo. Just pricey, but if you rig it with 2 or 3 foot of wire you shouldn't ever lose it. I guess the best costs more.
$55 lure for spaniard trolling and if you rig it with wire you shouldn't ever lose it?
Have you done much trolling for toothy pelagics big Dave?
Maybe the 'best' does cost more but I seriously doubt this would out fish an x rap or cd 14/18. Losing one of those is annoying enough when a Mack hits the swivel or lines cross during a double hookup or the fish dives under the outboard at the latter stages of the fight etc.
I've always been smashed on LaserPro 190s - anything with chrome seems to work a treat as does the redhead. But one of my most successful had no paint left on it at all - just dull green plastic. Outfished all the fancy lures.
Many of the pro-boats up north run large Halco 'Kimberley' metal spoons for macks.
Definately run wire - it will at least give you half a chance of keeping the lure, but if they hit the swivel or a decent shark turns up it makes no difference anyway.

I have never gone wrong with
I have never gone wrong with the deep diving Red and white Rapalas. I always use a long wind on braid and mono leader.
Love the West!

Can't argue with that.
Sorry mate. Can't argue with that. Even knots make a bubble trail and you run the risk of it getting bitten off.
Only experience is metro mackies where the hits a few are far between so I try to use every advantage possible. There is never a guarantee.
Do you know of another big lure with that kind of action?

Haven't
Haven't tried one myself and unlikely to for Mack's at $55 a pop.
How many fish did you take with it in the metro last season?
