.how do u seal the lure before its painted,,or is the painting stage supposed to seal the wood?

I used to dabble in making my own wood lures so maybe the way I did things wasn't the best.

Pine was always my choice of timber, it's easy to shape, has a nice weight for it's size, is just the right bouyancy for poppers & is cheap as chips. I just used to paint whatever patterns I wanted & after I was done I would apply 3 coats of polyurethane clear to seal the whole lot off paying particular attention to the areas around the bibs & wire. I used to do my colours with an airbrush so I don't know where you can buy wraps but I do know you can use the mesh from flywire, orange bags etc to make your own scale patterns on the lures. As for the terminals & the wire you should be able to find all that at any decent tacklestore.

If your going to be doing a wire through system (I strongly advise you do for large lures) be absolutely certain that you cut the lure dead centre down the middle & use a very fine blade to do so. I just used a jig mounted hacksaw but there are better tools for the job. If you don't get dead centre all the way down the lures length it won't run true & if you use a cutting blade that's too wide the halves won't match up very well when you araldite them back together.
