Lure choices for swan flatties

Hey FW crew, after some advice/opinions.

I took the young bloke down the river last Saturday morning to have acrack at some flatties. Was my first baitless session, and had a few soft placcies to throw around. I found they got smashed to bits by the voracious blowies, and only lasted a cast or two. I figure bait would pretty much be the same. A couple of guys fishing nearby were using hardbody lures, with some decent success (50cm+ and a couple around the 40cm size), the best bit was they could continue casting & retrieving without having to rig up another soft plastic that had been shredded. I also didn't see them hook any blowies.

So what's are peoples suggestions/favourite lures for flatties? If possible I'd also like to be able to target some saltwater fish as well, so anything that can double for tailor/whiting or even hezzas would be good.

Today I bought a Berkley 3B thing, I think it was called a "scum puppy" or similar, and a larger Halco something or other in gold that was reccomended by tackle shack in Malaga, he told me it works well for choppers in the swan too.

Any other reccomendations?

Thanks,

BD.

Thanks Ben, good reading there. Missed that one amongst all the recent flattie reports.

Any other thoughts/comments welcome.

Cheers,

BD.

 Been doing alright on both

Been doing alright on both soft plastics and hard bodies last couple of weeks. With soft plastics I was using zman 2.5 with 1/0. After a couple of years with them, I found the trick to them lasting longer is learning not to strike at blowie bites. Sure you will get a few holes in them, but they usually come back intact.

sometimes hardbodies(depending on areas) pick up that green stringy weed very easily. Also if you have only a couple of lures on you, carry spare treble hooks and a mini split ring pliers. When blowies inhale those tiny thin gauge trebles they bend or snap when you try to get it out.

Cheers

i've caught a fair few on

i've caught a fair few on the prawn star lure which is definitely blowie proof..but I know others haven't had as much success, and it does pick up the weed more than soft plastics in my experience. If you're gonna use soft plastics you don't really have a choice but to use Zman grubz etc.. the blowies do smash them but they stay intact pretty well and as said previously, there might be some holes in it but until it's had its tail bitten off it'll work fine.

Haven't really used hardbodies much so can't comment on them :)

Depends on location but I

Depends on location but I prefer sinking stickbaits or minnows over the plastics. Still won't stop you getting smashed by blowies though, had some horrendous sessions catching over 50 blowies. 3 on the one lure was enough to make me pack up and leave.

I have always found RMG Scorpion very good. 52mm I think and SD rather than DD. Can pick up a bit of weed though.

i've got a red and gold ecogear sx-40 that's lost a fair bit of paint from flatties now.

basically all your bream lures should do the trick
