You probably need to factor
You probably need to factor in that the demo page is a form of advertising with a lovely clear picture and fish arches everywhere and think of it like buying something from KFC... what you see in the ad is not what you are going to get in the box
Officially off the Pies bandwagon

If you are set up right you
If you are set up right you will get a useable picture but it will normally have quite a bit of clutter at speed (20+ knots). If you really want to sound and get a clear pic you will have to slow right down.

Not only that
Lowrance sounders have an auto and manual advanced sonar settings mode. Auto will keep things relatively clear but show stuff all fish or give any real good indication of the bottom. Switching to advanced and manual mode and altering the sensitivity and colour line levels will add clutter into the water column but also help to pickup more specific features of the bottom. as others have said in the responses above, the slower you cover the ground, the more accurate the reading and picture. If a chick was to all of a sudden flash herself at you, you would get a glimpse of what she looked like on the buff, if she undressed slowly and took her time then you would get a far better understanding of what "the bottom" or "the top" looked like then wouldn't you. Same principle goes for sounders and transducers.

I like your comparison, it makes a lot of sence. Doesn't it?

Other than me Mrs, haven't been randomly flashed for a while so it sounded like it made sense in my head anyway. Hahaha

A couple of things to
A couple of things to try:
Increase surface clarity. Default is usually off. This will get rid of
surface clutter.
Increase noise rejection. Also usually defaulted to low or off and increasing will help water column clutter.
If the above happen to affect the bottom picture you can first try increasing the colour line setting.
I generally do all of the above
to improve my Lowrance.

More info
Do you have more info? Can you post a pic?
Do you get a good reading when anchored/stationary and it gets worse and you go faster etc?
Can you post a pic showing the transducer mounting?

Lowrance sounders
When you ;look at all the manufactoring photos the show very good details one reason is that the USA who make most sounders have huge freshwater areas so the desply shown has less matter hanging than sea water, also the sea water its self has a defferent desity to fresh water.the desplay are accurate but not done were we use them
