I am thinking of upgrading my old Lowrance to a new combo unit. Has anyone purchased the Lowrance HDS series and if so whats you thoughts?

Any comments would be welcome.

i have change my navman unit to a lowrance lcx37  complete with broadband unit which is similar to the HD series now on sale , the broad band up the wattage from 600watts to 1.5 kw.  last month at Exmouth i tried the unit on 600w and then on 1.5 with good results , we record a great picture in 235 mts before we lost the signal only due to the conditions in a small boat, the new series are better as they have the broad band unit built in ,  Also mounting of the transducer is critical for good results, lowrance and echo souder secrets revealled books are good value

Blank Cheque, I'm thinking of upgrading my Furuno to a HDS8, how have you found your new unit, is it really as good as they claim? Have you tried it in deep water 250-300m? Mate I would appretiate all the info you can give me before I make up my mind. Thanks. Cool

Lui_f and Kane give you an update on HDS V Furuno.

Well I spent several days looking and chasing info on both Furuno and Lowrance. At one stage I was confused as anyone I guess. I sat back and had a good think about what was really behind the units and what I was going to use it for most. The two I was looking at were the Lowrance HDS 7 combo and the Furuno 7000F. They both have great features.

When you see the screen on the Lowrance you go wow far out never seen that before in a sounder and it is impressive no two ways about that. With the screen size I preferred the wide screen on the Furuno better for split screen options; you can actually run 3 screens with A Scope as well if you choose to.

The Lowrance screen was just a fraction bigger than what I have at present and smaller than the Furuno with fewer options when running split screen.

Then there was the price and the list goes on.Furuno have just had a price rise in the last couple of months just to add salt into the wound.

I managed to find a dealer that had both on the shelf ready to purchase and both units were also on display as demos. After about 2hrs of demo between both units and talking transducers I settled for the Furuno with 1000kw transducer.

The dealer had the Furuno with 600 kw transducer and Map going out for less than the new price of the Furuno without the transducer. He purchased several units at the old price. He still has a few if anyone is interested.

Ill have to wait now until I return from work to test it out.

I run both side by side and I would still buy a Furuno 600w over the Lowrance broadband.
