Hi Guys
looking at one of these which has the built in antenna
anyone got one and in particular do they really work well under a hard cover canopy without an external dome on the roof ?
cheers

Not sure what sort of hardtop
Not sure what sort of hardtop you have (guessing Aluminium), but under a fiberglass hardtop a HDS12 touch with internal antennae works just fine. Never had an issue with it.

have one fitted in the tinny.
have one fitted in the tinny. it is mounted on the rear seat up against the side of the boat. it sometimes takes a while to find itself but works fine...unless you put the bimini on. the bimini is just some tube and canvas but makes it heaps worse. i considered getting an antenna but hardly used the bimini so decided to ditch the bimini and wear a hat instead
p.s. i think it would perform abit better if mounted a bit further away from the gunnel.

HDS7
I have HDS7 under my Ali hardtop. Works OK, bit slow to wake up, but once going never had a problem with loosing satellites.

Most people install the system, check for satellites
If satellites show up, happy days, if not then its $300 odd dollars for a point 1 antenna, it refreshes at 10hz as opposed to the 5 hz on the head unit...
