lock up your trailer

Just a reminder, had a bloke at ocean reef a couple of weeks ago that had come back from an over-nighter at rotto in his 6.5-7m glass boat to find his trailer stolen off his car. What a bloody nightmare, it was a sunday too. I couldn't think of much worse coming back to a busy ramp with the Mrs to find that. I'll be padlocking mine to the car for even a long day out now, I really don't want that experience...There really is some real shit blokes out there.

not good but even padlocks wont stop them if they realy want it. the best ones to get are the ones they cant get to the main shaft of the padlock. also make sure your tow bar cant be removed either. with so many out there with removable tongues it is easy to remove

I used to use one of these: http://compare.ebay.com.au/like/270932381728?ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes when I was into boating & a length of chain & padlock to secure the whole shebang to the vehicle. They might cut the chain but they couldn't hitch the trailer to another vehicle. It means having to htich & unhitch everytime you load/unload the boat but that's less of a pain than finding the trailer gone altogether.

I agree Spook, would be the worst feeling and finding your trailer missing no matter what size boat you have. A locking system would take a longer time to get past and potentially make them disinterested in you trailer. But, some people are desperate and will do anything for what they want!

Yeah true, ill be putting a cable type lock through the holes of my runs from now on. At least they will leave a smoke and rubber trail, ha. There is little you can do if the idiots want you stuff, I always say they can have it if they want it that bad but I'm not going to make it easy.

If you click on cirtyflickers link that's an ebay page with lots of wheel clamp choices.  Although as I'm looking at buying a boat shortly I wouldn't mind finding one local (which I haven't seen).

I wouldn't be leaving my car there overnight, too isolated. Have you seen the amount of broken side windo galss on the carpark?

When I go overnight I launch from Hillarys and leave the car parked near the Aqua building under a light. They have security cameras on that area.

I use a hitch lock and also a wheel clamp on the trailer ( called Klampit, got mine from Whitworths ).
Good security for boat carpark and on drive at home.
As others said if they really want it nothing will stop them, but might put them off !

Catch one of the s*t$s and give them a public flogging then post up on youtube. No longer interested in long term parking up of my boat trailer anywhere as had my car/s broken into too many times.
